That podcast with Anthony was a pretty crucial listen for anyone who cares about this band/record. Definitely even more excited for the record now.
Tim O'Heir, who produced "Is a Real Boy." Also, another breakup record? Killing Time was like that too. I wonder if it'll be anywhere as brutally honest as that album was.
He said on the podcast that it's the most brutally honest record he's ever written. To the point where he feels uncomfortable playing it for friends/family.
He also said it's not really about the breakup itself, but the aftermath. Single should be coming within the next couple weeks, he said they are having a hard time selecting which song to use.
I know I've already said I love the album cover, but I adore that they haven't strayed from the pattern either. Every album cover has a border and the bird logo. They all look so nice together.
I'm glad I'm not the only one who ecstatic about the album cover. Really does set a tone for the album. I'm so excited.
For real. I don't usually fall in love with a lot of album art, but this one has stuck with me ever since catching a glimpse of it. Can't wait to have the songs to accompany it.
For some reason I feel like it has the spirit of Nothing Feels Good by the Promise Ring. I really dig it.
And it's not just the pictures either. Bleak titles on top of bright sunny pictures of buildings. I like that juxtaposition.
I really like it. It sounds like Bayside, which for me isn't a bad thing. I've never fallen out of love with this band. Feels like it could have fit on S/T or The Walking Wounded.
If the new album is exactly the same as their others, they're going to start to have diminishing returns for me. I haven't quite lost interest because I've only been into them for a couple years and think their last few have been their best, but I want them to at least progress a little.
Anthony said that this is the most different sounding Bayside album so far, whatever that really means. They'll never top Killing Time for me, but this song is a jam, just like every Bayside song ever pretty much haha.
In a weird way, Anthony's voice is so unique that it always feels to me like, no matter how big of a departure a Bayside song is, it always feels familiar. I don't know if that makes any sense, but I can't come up with a better way to express what I'm trying to say.
Definitely picking up Walking Wounded vibes. Has a nice bouncy rhythm to it that has that Tim O'Heir presence you hear on Say Anything and The Starting Line. Anxious to hear how out of the box they get with him behind the board.
how are they not as bored as I am...really hope they do stretch out and do something different on the rest of the album.
That time of year where I play a lot of Bayside. As far as just a straight up rock/emo band goes, these guys just do it for me despite how straightforward they are. I still hope Vacancy brings some good experimentation though. I also need to get around to adding the slew of b-sides and demos they have to my collection
