I appreciate them playing lots of rare stuff, but yeah night 2 isn’t for me. The picks from KT/Cult are rather disappointing.
I’d assume the only switching would be any from VIP going to the main set. They have 50 songs rehearsed and ready to go. While they could swap in a different song or two, I don’t have any expectations for them to do so.
VIP for night 2 was It’s Not A Bad Little War, Loveless Wrists, and They Looked Like Strong Hands. Pretty happy with that.
Finally scooped tickets to both Chicago shows, this band means too much to me to miss these. Still haven't looked at the setlists, I'm goin in blind!
Loved when he said that as they are celebrating the last 25 years as a band, they also see this as the start of the next 25 years. As more and more bands from this scene dwindle and fade, it’s nice to have bands like Bayside that have continually been putting in the work, and seemingly still be in it for the long haul. They were great both nights. It was cool getting to see some songs I never thought I’d see live, and probably never will again.
I took a bunch of videos. I had good spots each night with a seat, so it makes it easy to film. You can find more on my channel. Also a bunch of Sincere Engineer, too.
If this band manges to last 50 years I'd be with shocked and elated lol. Most bands never nanage that and the few that do are big mainstream successes which this band is not, so I'd be happy as hell for them to still stand the test of time lol.
I think the 25 years was partially in jest, but the sentiment was definitely there, if that makes sense.
Last 2 nights were incredible, went in blind on the setlists and wow I couldn’t believe it. So cool to finally see a unique set from them and I hope after this tour they do it a lot more
We can get you the help you need! Also, it's kinda wild the difference in attendance for night 2? I know *nostalgia* and everything but I didn't think it'd be this different
I assume night two is bombing most places? Not surprising. A lot of Bayside fans only like Self Titled, TWW and the hits off of Killing Time. Killing Time is far more popular than the 4 other albums on night 2 and they have played the most popular songs off of it to death. I can see a lot of people not wanting to sit through sets filled with songs off of albums they aren’t super into. If they really wanted to do two nights and draw super well both nights they should have done Self Titled one night and TWW the 2nd night.
My guess is if they had to plan this tour again they would have just sold this as a mixed set each night from all albums with no songs being repeated. That way fans are guaranteed to hear songs from all albums each night. Personally, I love and resonate with all the Bayside albums, so I loved how they did what they did, but clearly, most fans aren’t resonating with the last five albums as they did with the first four. I also think (and I mentioned this before the venues were even announced) that they aren’t a big enough band to be playing these type of venues two nights in a row in each city. Especially without a heavy hitting opener (no disrespect to Sincere Engineer). Cleveland, for example, they rarely - if ever - sell out House of Blues Cleveland on a normal tour. So trying to fill up both nights is a huge ask (night 2, they closed off the balcony). That said, I for one, applaud them for taking this swing. Not many bands even make it close to 25 years so the fact that they’re still able to pull a good amount on Night 1 this far into their career and then another sizable crowd for Night 2, good for them.
I’m terrible at counting people, but Cleveland might 2 had 400-500. That would be my guess. Nowhere near as low as Toronto was.
I definitely applaud the move and totally agree with you. If support had been more prominent this tour would probably be doing a little better. The Smoking Popes definitely aren’t going to bring many people to the Portland shows. They booked 1000 cap venue here which is pretty normal for them so I expect it to be mostly full since it’s on a weekend. It’s amazing to see them doing something like this after years and years of playing the same songs live. I stopped seeing them for a long time due to being bored of the stale setlist. This will be my first time seeing them since the Say Anything tour in 2017 and I couldn’t be more excited.
Wild to see comments that Bayside fans aren’t super into the night 2 albums. IMO they went to another level with those albums and it’s difficult for me to go back and listen to the first four records because of how good the next 5 have been. I only bought a ticket to night 2, and can’t wait for it. Y’all actually listen to the other five? lol :P
