I mean, people get excited for opportunities that seem like dream jobs, get into it, & then realize it's actually really bad for them personally, all the time. *shrug*
Don't forget she had to have emergency neck surgery because she almost severed her spinal cord and became paralyzed doing a stunt for this show. It's ok to realize something is not for you and quit your job, especially something as exhausting as being the lead of a superhero show.
Wait, there were (at least) two major accidents on set, the latter putting someone in a wheelchair? Gross.
I don't think there's ever been anyone else as Batwoman in the comics before. Might be wrong since I don't follow DC that much
I wouldn't mind Mary taking over tbh. or Maybe they'll bring in Batgirl and change the name of the show? lol
There’s also Kathy Kane, the original Batwoman from the 50s (the same era that introduced Ace the Bat-Hound), who was initially created in the aftermath of Fredric Wertham’s 50s campaign against comics (Seduction of the Innocent)... to make Batman not gay, lol.
I believe they were originally gonna make Barbara Gordon (who was Oracle at the time) Batwoman, before deciding to keep her in a wheelchair for the sake of representation & introduce a reimagined version of Batwoman instead. Not sure how the process went from there to deciding to make her a lesbian, but I wouldn’t be shocked if someone thought of it as a way to reclaim the character concept, like as a screw you to Wertham & that whole 50s mess.
Anyways, I don’t watch these CW shows & dunno why I’m so curious about all this, lol. Maybe they wanna keep the role open in hopes of convincing Ruby Rose to make cameos? Depending on what that whole relationship looks like in the future. Does seem like there have been other small alternate versions of Batwoman here & there, in different realities. A Selena Kyle version; a Stephanie Brown version; a Helena Wayne version. Maybe they could just take one of their preexisting characters & make her Batwoman?
There is a WWE wrestler campaigning for the role who would honestly be great. She's been petitioning the bosses to give her a LGBT storyline but keeps getting shot down. If she can worm her way out of that shithole into this, I'd love it.
I get that they're not killing her off but the decision not to re-cast the role is still bizarre regardless of what plot they've come up with.
