Went in with low expectations, none of the singles really stuck with me, but ended up really enjoying this start to finish
Definitely works better at an album. Only about 25% of the way through but really loving this. Worth the wait!
Something about the production is bugging me but I can’t tell what. There’s parts here I feel should feel fuller, but come across as flat or muffled, but then there will be like a wailing guitar sound that comes across clear as day or there will be a section of the track where the dynamics are very apparent. Could totally be just my end though. First listen on Airpods which def aren’t the bastion of quality, and then in the car, but something about it feels like it needs to be fuller. Other than that though, I’m digging it a bunch. They got really weird in some of these songs which I’m enjoying a ton. Super excited to keep listening as I adore these guys a ton.
If my favorite single was the way I feel is this worth me spending a lot of time on? basement records are usually misses for me, but that track is amazing
That was the only single that really did much for me as a standalone track, needless to say I went into this with a low bar. Pleased to like it quite a bit more than I expected to. Love Longshot
Listening to Deadweight right now and I’m totally thrown off by that slower chorus. But I think I dig it??
‘DEADWEIGHT’ Ronan Crix (guitar): The dynamic shift between the versus and the chorus in this song is something that we haven’t really tried before and the first time I heard Andrew’s demo of it I honestly didn’t really ‘get’ it. It wasn’t until we all got together and played it as a band that it really grabbed me. When we came to record it, John suggested we use synths over the choruses to really emphasise the horror coming discordant lead guitar; it really made the song complete. It’s one of my favourite moments in any Basement song to date.
First impressions: pretty cool record, love the raw production. They made a lot of interesting choices throughout the album and I never knew quite what to expect from the next song. I was lukewarm on most of the singles but like them a lot more in the context of the album. Pretty certain this will be a grower. Credit to them for continually pushing themselves when they could just release 12 rewrites of Covet and make bank.
Getting some Jimmy Eat World vibes especially in the "heavier" portions that are still pop-punk leaning. I think this might be their most diverse/cohesive album... Another reason it reminds me of JEW. They are really good at that.
This album passed the long run test for me. Started with Koyo and then this and got through a good 8 miles before Muna danced me home.
Pick Up The Pieces reminds me of the more aggressive tracks on Paramore’s This Is Why. the vocal layering in first verse and flourish in the second verse especially. Kinda like a spiritual successor to The News
Feel like Alex has improved a lot as a guitarist since the hiatus with the fiddlehead records so I’m excited to listen and see if that translates over
That run of the last 4 tracks is truly excellent. 4 very different, very good songs that flow extremely well.
