i do think the sequencing is a bit strange, and i feel that way about live forever too

 

Been trying to figure out what that little synth line in Escape This Circus reminds me so much of — finally figured out that it’s A Force At Play on that new Cloakroom record

 

Fucking can’t wait to see him play with the national in a couple months. Been a long time since I was this excited for a show.

I think it’s pretty similar to “Mulholland Dr.” personally.

Finally listened and I agree with a lot of the takes in this thread. Good album overall, but those first three tracks are the high point.

Feels more like hold the line to me tbh, a nice slow burner, but not quite the pop excellence of the first three

 

“Hennessy” is the best song here.

 

Very weird to me that he seems to always group the slow songs together on his records

 

This is very good. I think Boomer is probably still my favorite of his songs after a few listens here, but this is a more satisfying beginning to end listen imo

 

i do appreciate that this feels like he went and made a whole album of stone meadows tho cause thats prob my fav of his

 

Woah I'm late to this dude but holy shit! Still gotta dig into his work but not sure I've heard an artist pull off the diversity of styles he does in the first four tracks of this album...broke my heart with Mulholland Drive and Wretched and then he's rapping with Migos swagger on Cosigns lol.

And he's got an EP of National covers wtf?!

Will report back.

Bartees gets the best guitar tones. They always sound so full on his records.

 

Really like the first half of this and then the energy falls off pretty hard. I'm sure the last couple songs are great, I just gotta dig into them more
