Barry White (born Barry Eugene Carter; September 12, 1944 – July 4, 2003) was an American composer and singer-songwriter.

A three-time Grammy Award–winner known for his distinctive bass-baritone voice and romantic image, White's greatest success came in the 1970s as a solo singer and with the Love Unlimited Orchestra, crafting many enduring soul, funk, and disco songs such as his two biggest hits, "You're the First, the Last, My Everything" and "Can't Get Enough of Your Love, Babe".

During the course of his career in the music business, White achieved 106 gold albums worldwide, 41 of which also attained platinum status. White had 20 gold and 10 platinum singles, with worldwide record sales in excess of 100 million. He is one of the world's best-selling artists of all time.

People treat him as a joke, but Can't Get Enough is a tremendous record. He wasn't just a singer, but a heck of a songwriter and producer.

I've been diving into his discog the past day and a half and I'm pretty blown away at how deep and layered his material as.

Should be in the discussion of great soul auteurs along with Hayes and Mayfield imo

Any clue where I should go for a second record after Can't Get Enough?

I'm kinda sifting through at the moment but if you want a more disco-tinged release, Let the Music Play is pretty phenomenal

All of his 70s stuff is very well regarded, and I haven't found a true dud yet from that era

His first album, I've Got So Much to Give is a very strong debut, but doesn't have the same consistency as Can't Get Enough imo.

I found it for $3 at the shop though so couldn't pass that up haha

Also, I'm not as sure on it's rep but his 1980 release Barry & Glodean that he recorded with his wife is some really good early 80s disco/dance tinged soul
