Do they ever go into detail about the actual disappearance? In the first episode the woman's baby disappears when she was not looking. Surely someone was looking at some of the people that disappeared. Was it just a blink and gone or did they turn into ash or what?
I am not ranking Barry against those other shows as I haven't seen them, but in regards to this about it being a dark comedy and balancing the absurdity with the sincerity - to me, it achieves that with mixed results. I was okay with how it ended, and glad I followed it through, but I thought s1 and s2 were peak, and 3 and 4 were both not nearly as good. BUT - there are scenes and moments in both of the later seasons that are as good as any earlier ones, but it just wasn't as consistent to me and I felt the humor didn't land (some of my specific complaints I was pretty much the only one here that felt that way so I'll be interested to see how you feel when all said and done). My biggest takeaway from the show though, coupled with interviews, is how much of a film geek Bill Hader actually is, and how good his acting and directing chops are. He directed the entire last season vs just a few episodes, and it really has a distinct visual vibe and feel that I enjoyed even when the plot wasn't 10/10.
I finished both The Leftovers and Barry over the Thanksgiving break. Barry was the better show. The movie of his life at the end was hilarious.
Wonder if they had this news for a bit but wanted to give some space from that episode of The Studio before announcing lol
