Damn, these first two episodes were great. Seeing Barry so unhinged after trying so hard to turn his life around in the first two seasons is so unsettling. Hader is so good. The tracking shot of Sally going by through the set was one of those ones were you don’t notice it until the end. She spent all of last season dealing with this trauma and now's she's just walking through this commodified version of it, unfazed by it all. So well done. Also, the too many dogs bit was fucking hilarious.
That one felt really short, I was surprised when it ended. Definitely felt like more of a setup episode but the convo where Gene realized exactly what happened and that Barry's monologue was all true was chilling. This might be Winkler's best work as an actor
Hey Barry! You still feel like you have no purpose, seeing shit, going crazy, etc? If so, I have a job for you!
This one did feel the most like a table-settler but still some incredible lines. Hank calling Barry "the Greek Freak of assassins" made me lol
Another good episode. The conversation between Barry and Gene hurt to watch (in a good way). Loved the interview scene too. This one had so many great lines. "Neighborhood kids being chodes", Ben Mendelsohn, "Greek Freak of assassins", "this happened to a friend of yours?".
Sy Ableman! Noho Hank is a Little Shop fan! it's racist just because Tony Danza is Italian doesn't mean he's hooked up with the mob
Watching Fuches take the idea of the "vengeance panther army" fable from his girlfriend and actually turn it into reality is really clever stuff. He's rounding up all these lost souls and offering them a false sense of redemption that will only ruin their lives further. He really is the devil.
Having finished a series rewatch immediately before starting this season, this episode felt like the real return Cackled at pretty much every that came out of Melamed’s mouth, hope he shows up more from time to time. The last scene with the gag in the gun store got me real good too — the roles are somewhat subverted but it was very It’s Always Sunny
Everything with the bomb was incredible - the reveal that they kept the bomb like 50yds away in the middle of the lot, the panning shot of Barry slowly walking towards it, then how awkwardly he held it at a distance as if that mattered. Perfect visual comedy
So damn cool to see Fred Melamed in this. The bit where he was still listing names Gene has been called as they’re walking around the store got a huge laugh out of me.
Not me forgetting that guy’s name and seeing Ian’s post and thinking “oh yeah, that’s his name, Sy Ableman” loool
Yeah this was a fantastic episode, felt the most like the first two seasons out of this whole season so far. Echoing that everything with the bomb was hilarious, and the Sally story was really strong too, I love how everything is actually going well for her. I'm sure something terrible will happen though lol For example, I'm pretty sure Fuches is sending all of those people to Sally's apartment after she kicked Barry out...
That and also the other shoe still hasn’t dropped yet re: her getting the show based on the lie about how she left Sam
