Bardo, False Chronicle of a Handful of Truths (Innaritu, 2022, Netflix) Movie

If he got rid of the CGI baby then I'm out

 

Critics were pretty harsh on this, but I'll still check it out. It does look pretty indulgent.

what a ride this was. It feels like a mess but kinda comes together in the end. Probably some of the best cinematography of the year from me, but I'm a huge Malick fan and it's very Malick-y

It's pretty much a cross between Tree of Life, 8 1/2, and maybe even Synecdoche, NY. And the Tree of Life comparisons are more than just visuals

 

also an absolutely fantastic lead performance

 

This is what happens when you give incompetent people a lot of fancy awards. We have had so many semi-autobiographical films from directors this year and this one has to be the worst.

Everyone copies Antonioni and Bergman but every once in a while they try to do Fellini and it is always bad. Leave 8 1/2 alone.

 

I like how all the "surrealist" images, as if not blatantly explanatory enough, are immediately followed by a lengthy philosophical discussion between the main character and whoever more or less explaining what you just saw was supposed to mean

 

Some technical aspects aside, did not enjoy this, and it felt it’s length.
