I’d be into it if she signed onto the first one Narnia film, and then took a producer role beyond that. It’s a series I have nostalgia for, which she’d probably bring a nice, much needed perspective to. But, if she followed up a Barbie film with two Netflix Narnia films… that wouldn’t be my favorite trajectory for her career!
When little women came out she was teasing some old school Hollywood type movie with lots of tap dancing as her next project. Would much rather have that than *gestures broadly* any of this.
Why don't you guys want her to direct them? Loved that book series as a kid. Especially The Magicians Nephew
not sure that yields best to her talents as a filmmaker the way stuff like lady bird and little women does, but i'm not speaking for anyone else
I feel more strongly about Coogler moving on from Marvel Studios than I do about Gerwig never doing any Narnia, for a few different reasons. But, yeah, they both fall under the same umbrella for me: While a talented filmmaker applying their skills and voice to a known property, even a more “fun”-centric one, can rule, those franchises are also often cages that limit what else can be done. And, as someone who thinks this medium is valuable and just really neat, I hate to see promising filmmakers invest several years of their finite lives on those corporate projects.
If Greta has this amazing take on Narnia sure but I think most of us don’t want her to get swallowed by the IP machine for years. Also concerning, Barry Jenkins doing The Lion King 2
If you look closely, you can see that the teaser is an homage to Stanley Kubrick's 2001: A Space Odyssey. The reason for this is that Barbie will likewise be one of the greatest films ever made.
