I saw this again yesterday and the 2 teenage girls next to me didn't watch a single minute of the movie. They just talked to each other and were snapchatting people the entire time. I'm not sure they were aware they were in a movie theater. Anyways movie still rules.
My parents couldn’t see this Tuesday mid-day because the showtimes were sold out. Wild $1B is happening
It should cross $1 billion this weekend unless TMNT and Meg 2 make the box office drop significantly. Which I don’t see happening.
It’s absolutely hitting a billion by Sunday and gonna beat Super Mario for #1 before Labor Day. Meg 2 will clean up in China and I think TMNT will leg it out and do well the rest of this month since there isn’t much else for kids (similar to elemental’s run but also… way cheaper to make)
Also there was a mom there with her teen who were clearly in the wrong seats and she argued with this lady who had 9 seats in a row saying her seats were correct and then eventually she got up and said I know I’m right but I won’t argue and then went to the front row.
Excited to see this tomorrow - I'm just gonna go on my own as my wife is out of town and already saw it with her Mom and I have the AMC stubs so why not. I got the back corner seat to be Incognito Ken. I was already all in on seeing it, but I have to now, as the only 2 guys in my group chat that have seen it, have done nothing but absolutely roast it. 'Worst movie I've ever seen!!' 'Throw your money in the trash'. 'Didn't even laugh once!' 'You'll lose brain cells watching it' etc etc Lol. I hope I thoroughly enjoy it just out of spite. I can get not liking it, but man, that kind of 'I hate it so much!' surely has to stem from already making up their mind before they set their ass down in the theater. Funnily enough, the 2 partners of those dudes didn't like it either. One complained it was too long and that it focused far too much on Ken, and the other just said Ryan Gosling was too old and not hot enough for Ken and that it just wasn't funny. FYI - it's still absolutely crushing it box office wise as I checked like 5 showings trying to find a single seat not in the middle of a group, and nearly every screening I checked was about sold out except for front row seats.
LOL they are mostly good people with a lot of common interests, but I swear this is what some of the humor boils down to. I am not at all surprised when we deviate on what movies/shows we like. I get not liking this movie (I guess? haven't seen it as I stated), but being a buzz kill to that extent just comes across as a 'I was forced by my wife to watch this movie, and I'll be damned if I admit to enjoying it!' I think there's a good chance that there will be at least some enjoyable parts in a billion dollar box office juggernaut.
Even seemingly liberal men are so afraid of appearing gay or feminine that they have to not just dislike the movie but outspokenly hate it.
the more I sit with this since yesterday the more I love it. such a well-directed and confidently made movie, feels like years since I saw a comedy this good only problem I had with it really was Barbie's "I think I owe you an apology" scene to Ken. she really really didn't lmao, kinda feels like a scene from an earlier draft of the film
Wife and I saw this last night finally - like everyone else Gosling was transcendent and born for this role it was a really fun movie also
Greta Gerwig went from mumblecore films made for a few thousand dollars with a cast and crew of friends to one of the biggest successes ever. Remarkable.
