A lot of the jokes definitely went over a lot of peoples' heads. Snydercut, Lou Reed, and so many others. Movies for kids have always had jokes for adults baked in here and there, but I can't think of another movie that was so directed at a different audience than the product being sold. You could definitely feel Baumbauch's writing in there with those very specific references most people aren't going to get.
if you didn't like the Snyder cut joke its because you were the target of it. I laughed out loud at that one and some of the other more specific ones that many in my theater missed.
I got an almost violent reaction from my male co-workers when I mentioned I saw the movie. Younger men, too.
I’ve never seen the syder cut but that joke landed like a studio note tryna plug another Warner movie
Thought the Snyder Cut joke was clearly used because of that shitty toxic mostly male (!) culture/fanbase and their disgusting behavior.
the subplot of ken "waking up" to the idea of the patriarchy and the montage that led that off was one of the funniest parts of this for me. I chuckle every time I think of it
Lol no, it's because it's a corny topic-of-the-week kind of joke that you'd expect from some last night show. They might as well have made a Drumpf reference. I "get" the joke because I'm online enough to have heard about the whole thing, but I've never seen or cared about any of those DC movies
Caring about it in a negative way that much is just as off-putting as the people who care about it in a positive way tbh. It was a humorous thing for like a week or two several years ago, time to move on
True. The one that landed headrest in my theatre was the line that the Jr. employee from Mattel delivered in the conference room. line was something like “wait, I have low confidence and am not in a position of power, does that make me a woman?” Was a real “yeesh!” moment.
