The dirt around the kids and the way she throws the doll in the air is directly from 2001. It isn't a thing you can debate. Saying the song has been used in other things is just saying they were referencing 2001 as well. It is one of the most iconic movies ever made.
They mean the 2001 theme song. I dunno if they're right or not, but I can totally see Burger King or Arby's promoting a new sandwich with it.
Maybe they haven’t actually seen 2001? And that’s okay, if that’s it. I’d seen it parodied hundreds of times over the year and only finally saw the actual movie last year. If this is it, check it out when you can. It’s pretty good haha
Absolutely flabbergasted at arguing a 2001 homage is….not directly lifting from the movie I watched 2001 two weeks ago, it’s literally exactly same shots and having Barbie as the monolith was hilarious and screwy and kicked off exactly what kinda movie this was going to be
America Ferrera's speech and the Depression Barbie really hit home with all the women in my theater huge applause and hooting and hollering for both.
This absolutely ruled. The matchbox twenty bit killed me. Robbie was good but Gosling was perfect. Way deeper than I thought it was going to be.
I can't get over how much I loved this. Subversive and poignant in all the best ways. The Matchbox Twenty gag had me needing to quickly regain my composure being in a crowded theater. I lost it.
