Not sure how this doesn’t count as going against the current strike, both literally (she wrote the thing!) and just in the spirit of things tbh
I needed to see a picture of Michael Cera with his normal curly hair to finally get why seeing him with the straight Allan hair has such a viscerally disturbing uncanny valley feel to it
Is the Rhea Perlman scene the montage around the end? Kinda hate them for placing an emotional beat right before credit arrive and lights turn on lol
What a bizarre fever dream of a film. A lot of similarities to the Lego movie structure wise, although a lot of that has to do with Ferrel. I did enjoy it and Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling were great.
Is there a word for nostalgia for stuff you didn’t actually experience? Like I was a boy in a conservative household. I certainly knew Barbie was a thing growing up though never did anything with it. Certainly knew about Ken and the dream house because of how pop culture works, but Midge or Allen I had no idea those were things. But still got vibes similar to nostalgia from watching this thing
I enjoyed this, especially the final act when Barbie decides to be human. I think the message was good for guys and girls about how it’s tough to be human in general and you gotta be your own person and not what others try to tell you who to become. That said it felt like a long fever dream.
Directors are allowed to promote their films. Nolan’s been doing all of the press for Oppenheimer by himself it seems.
I figured this would be good, but I didn’t expect it to be as fantastically hilarious as it is. So many jokes hit perfectly, first appearance of push absolutely destroyed me as well as virtually every Ken line about horses (really every Ken line in general tbh). Feel like if you don’t see this this weekend what are you doing?
predictably the official r/movies thread for this is even funnier than the movie if you can laugh at those people without thinking too hard about how bad it is
This was even better with a full crowd, the Margot Robbie line had everyone howling. There's something just so joyful of seeing the lobby as a sea of pink. Some people went all out with their outfits! I felt underdressed in my pink hat and aloha shirt. This was SUBLIME!
Favorite moments: the Margot Robbie line Ken sliding off of the hummer The final gynecologist line The dance battle in the final 1/3 Kens singing push Ferrells “I have Jewish friends”
