I mean that’s not exactly a confirmation but would be a cool entry for Criterion (even if I think Barbarian to be pretty uneven). They lack heavily in the modern horror department.
I think you mentioned at one point that it allegedly may or may not have been in the works and it may or may not have been at Shout
i don't think he could share any insider info regardless of who ends up releasing it, and it's still just a rumor at this point. have concerns with most news coming from World of Reel, but would love to see it happen!
Yeah I mean, I can't confirm if Criterion is releasing because they haven't announced it and I don't work there haha... But we did throw our hats in the ring and I have known for a while who will release it
i will say if Criterion does end up with it (which still feels like an odd selection for the collection, but i'm not complaining), i do have like $20 in credits burning a hole in my pocket that i could use it for (unless Disney wises up and the new transfer of The Straight Story finally makes it to the US)
We need a better source than World of Reel, even though I know they’re just quoting a podcast. I just hate that site.
i just know his track record is very mixed, and others might have called him out on it before, but i think there's a suspicion that he's pretty transphobic. never refers to trans and non-binary creatives/actors by their preferred pronouns (only their names), and certainly doesn't shut down rampant transphobia in his comments.
I literally just ordered a bootleg Blu-Ray of this movie online yesterday because I wanted it as a physical copy so bad and then come in here to read this lol Luckily it was only like $15
preorders for a French-region 4K steelbook version of this have apparently gone up on French retailer FNAC's website. https://www.fnac.com/a23091713/Barbare-Blu-ray-SteelBook-4K-Ultra-HD-Georgina-Campbell-Blu-ray-4K since we're about a day or two removed from Criterion's August announcements, if they're planning on releasing it, i'm sure we'll hear official news in the next couple of days (unless they're saving it for September or beyond).
update: wasn't aware of this, but apparently Zach said back in February that the plan two years ago was to go through Criterion here in the U.S., but it fell through, in addition to things not working out with Shout. so i'm assuming if this is getting a domestic release, it'll probably be through the studio.
