It looks like Safetysuit may be dropping two new singles next week! If it's in the same vein as their single Victory I'll be pleasantly surprised. Life Left To Go is probably a top 10 favorite album for me, I hope they can recapture that sound again.
Holy shit, I haven't heard the name Safetysuit in years. Completely forgot they existed. Taking a trip down memory lane right now. I used to listen to "Someone Like You" sooo much. Vendetta Red's "Sisters of the Red Death" is my forever niche obsession album. I still go back to it from time to time and love it just as much, though the violence in the lyrics is far more noticeable/off-putting now.
Just randomly remembered the Victory band Thieves and Villains. I remember getting the first CD back then, but I honestly don't know if people even liked them. Anyone else aware of them? Only 285 monthly listeners now
I remember them from the ap.net days but I can't recall any single note of music at the moment. For some reason, I also remember their second album being panned, unless I'm mistaking them with another band that had a sophomore slump.
Ooh, I liked Thieves & Villains, at least the first album - never heard the second. "All I Needed" was a standout of that era.
The T&V memory has me on a deep dive through my old CD collection. Anyone ever listen to Southcott? still gets stuck in my head sometimes
I'm blanking on a name and need some help. Alt rock/electronic infused band that started out as rap rock. Their most popular release is from 2004 or something along those lines. Uh... that's all I've got right now. I have their signature song in my head but idk how I'd translate it here. Nevermind, used the genre chart feature on rateyourmusic and found it:
I’ve seen Brandtson mentioned in here several times so I thought I’d post this here. I remember back when Brandtson were in the midst of breaking up, Myk Porter had started a solo project called May This House Be Safe From Tigers on Myspace (dating myself here). That was the last time I’d ever followed anything he did musically thereafter and either forgot or assumed he walked away from music. So imagine my delight when I discovered last week that, actually, he never stopped. Turns out that in 2009 he and Adam Boose (who joined Brandtson for the creation of Hello Control so, depending on how you feel about that album, your mileage may vary) stepped back into the recording studios to write and produce a new album titled “There Is No Tomorrow” under the moniker “Swarm of Bats”. Listening to it, I kind of got the impression he may have been pushing back a bit on the criticism he’d received for the dance electronic synth pop shift Brandtson had taken at the end there because the Swarm of Bats album feels almost aggressively punk in comparison. There were a couple songs I liked on there, but it didn’t feel like something that would have much longevity for me. Which I guess is how Myk and Adam felt as well because they then switched gears again and formed another new band, Golden Streets of Paradise, this time with more of a prog rock sound. They released their first EP “The Sun is Everything” in 2014, their first album “World War” in 2016, seemed to have taken a bit of a hiatus, and then returned in 2021 with their latest album, “Throes”, which feels way more accomplished than anything the band was doing before. The first EP and album sounded like they were leaning hard on the prog rock sound, but with Throes they returned to some of the electronic synth influence without overly relying on it. It feels way more organic now and the bass synth kind of hovers over it. I was delightfully surprised by this one because it feels the closest to Brandtson and it’s just really nice to hear Myk’s voice again after all these years. This is probably my favorite track off of Throes: Anyway, just thought I’d mention it here since I went looking to see if anyone had mentioned this band in the Music forum but I couldn’t find anything beyond “remember Brandtson?” in this thread lol. Check it out if you’re interested. Throes would definitely be my recommendation.
I've never listened to any of the post-Brandtson projects but now I'm curious. If I remember correctly the material that was supposed to make up Hello Control's follow up was reworked for them.
I didn’t know this, but I’d be really curious to know which songs they were. I’ve got some of the old May This House Be Safe From Tigers demos from Myspace in terrible 96kbps quality and always wondered if any of those were intended to be Brandtson material.
Samesies, I guess your best bet may be to ask them whenever the facebook Brandtson page makes a new post.
I think the 08 is the one that I know…I just looked up their wiki. Looks like they dropped one in 05! I’ve never heard anything from that album.
Many moons ago when I was a shitty teenager, I would volunteer at a small local venue (that by day was a church) to see the shows for free. Mostly I'd tear down the stage and help put it back in church mode. These guys came in and played an immaculate set. Afterwards they stayed and helped us tear down. Nice dudes. Good tunes.
It's really too bad they didn't last long as a band. If I recall correctly, they signed to a major label and then got dropped and broke up.
Yeah I think it was just one of those "right at the wrong moment" things. The scene died pretty abruptly and left a lot of smaller bands pretty boned. Hence this entire thread.
