That album was so good, it’s wild how fast they put out the album and then broke up. I remember talking to them on aim a bunch, super nice dudes. It’s a shame they were gone so quick.

This whole album Putting The Days To Bed is great. And I’m pretty sure Chris Walla of DCFC helped them in the studio at times. Both bands were unnoticed local bands in Seattle around the same time, and both got signed to Barsuk records around the same time.

  9. “Carparts” and “The Commander Thinks Aloud” are perfect songs. Do you listen to John’s podcast Roderick On the Line?

I’ve heard a couple episodes! He’s such an insightful dude, always gives great interviews too that are very realist, and don’t exactly sugarcoat the truth about the music industry.

I actually saw him host a Q&A live for Seattle’s KEXP radio when I went to Bumbershoot festival in 2013, shook his hand & met him. Phenomenal guy.

Not sure whether they've faded away completely, but KADDISFLY was a criminally underrated post-hardcore/prog band that put out three incredible LPs. Gonna post a highlight from each of them.

If you're into stuff like Circa and Glassjaw and somehow missed these guys, drop everything you're doing and dig into their discography.

    I love Kaddisfly

  17. It's a shame they've disappeared again after finally releasing Horses Galloping On Sailboats. Not even done anything with their other project since too.

Yeah, on the spectrum of underrated bands that grossly under performed what they deserved commercially, I can only think of 1-2 others at the level of Kaddisfly.

I remember back around '07-'08 hearing something about how they and Circa were competing for the same major label deal, and they lost out. I adore both bands, but -- and I know I'll get skewered for this by some -- I actually think HGOS is better than anything Circa's put out post-OLG. :-/

  21. Indeed, I figure the drummer has to be more comfortable with Smallpools since

yeah i wrote about this in my blog, maybe more than once.

I don't know ultimately if getting the label deal would have been best for the band, but, personally, it was a hard pill to swallow being how much I love Kaddisfly and never could even like Circa Survive (mainly the singer. When David Botrill can't make your voice sound good, it was enough to never believe I'd ever care for them).

It's a damn shame it had to come down to that, even though I was a massive Circa fan too back then. If you were judging the bands side by side in 07, I'd put their respective catalogs to that point neck and neck, and OLG might be the best record either of them has put out. Anthony's charisma and history with Saosin, combined with KFly's sometimes preachy sounding lyrics, probably tipped the scales for Atlantic.

Over time, I've realized whoever writes riffs and melodies for KFly is just on another level. Meanwhile, Circa got a lot more boring on that front starting with BSN. I still love Circa, but HGOS to me is more captivating and innovative than the last 2-3 Circa records combined... and they made it in their basement for fun :/

For any fellow Australians on here - Kisschasy were the bomb. First two records were excellent, the third was solid and then they dropped off the face of the earth for a while. They did a couple of one-off shows and then followed it up with an official farewell tour about 5 years ago, but always felt they should've been a much bigger presence in the Australian music scene.

  25. Idk both Kaddisfly and Circa Survive are great and in my all time favorites list, I don't get the need to drag one to uplift the other. It's not Circa's fault if the former couldn't reach higher success.
