No lmao, but I was SUPER into Mayday Parade when I was younger (I still sort of am tbh), and came to find about Daniel Lancaster after he featured in a Mayday Parade song since his brother was in the band. Daniel is in the band Stages & Stereos, but for I guess just a single EP was one half of Select Start’s vocals. And I really grew to love that EP.
listening to Dave Melillo's podcast right now about kind of the "rise and fall" of him. it's super interesting for those interested.
I believe Dave was featured in that documentary Bastards of Young. It was disheartening to see it go nowhere fast.
Episode 15: Too Young To Fail IV by Conversation Piece | Anchor - The easiest way to start a podcast first episode about this is episode 4. really interesting stuff. i had no idea he had ties to Hayley Williams, offers from FBR, etc. also, theres some tunes he plays in here that I had never heard cause Drive Thru never released them.
The bands that I go back to that I wish still did something are: Daphne Loves Derby Rock Kills Kid Rory Dropping Daylight (Kidnap Kings) The Sunstreak Great Glass Elevator Fire When Ready Coyote Theory And a ton more I'm probably forgetting off the top of my head.
I've been listening to that Melillo podcast too, it's really fascinating. I wish more artists would do that kind of stuff reflecting on their careers and experiences in the music industry.
this band just came to mind: The Hippos with how successful Ariel has been in the last few years, it makes sense why they haven't reunited and done some sort of anniversary tour or something, but dammit i'd kill to see them live. such a fun underrated ska band.
Please and Lost It are two of my favorite tracks ever. I was shocked when I found out about a year or two ago to learn of the artists Ariel has worked with, pretty damn cool.
I came in here to say Recover. I still have the setlist from their reunion show at the Chain Reaction framed somewhere in my apartment. EDIT: I remembered some others. Banner Pilot Polar Bear Club Boys Night Out Foxy Shazam
I can get on-board with most of these. I was never sure what happened with Banner Pilot. It's like they just - wait for it - faded away. "Souvenir" wasn't their best but "Heart Beats Pacific" was really great. Follow up - I peeped their website. It said some stuff: JANUARY 31, 2018 IN GENERAL, NEWS UPDATES & STUFF Hey there! It’s been awhile since we’ve posted an update. Here’s some news: -We’ve been working on a new album, on and off, mostly off. It’s slow going but we have a bunch of songs now and I think a lot of them are pretty great. We just need to flesh them out some more and hopefully we’ll have a new record for ya’ll before too long -I started another band called Partial Traces awhile back. It’s a lot mellower, more indie pop/rock than Banner Pilot, so you might not dig it. Or, you might! You can check out our first album Glass Beach over at our Bandcamp page -Fest and Pre-Fest a few months ago were our first shows in quite a long time and they ruled. Was super fun being back there and seeing a ton of friends -We are playing Chicago at the Metro with The Lawrence Arms in April, definitely excited about that one. Tickets on sale this Friday. I bet you can figure out how to find them using Google or whatever. That’s about it, I think? New shows and new tunes soon*, check back! – Nate (* “soon” being defined, you know, loosely)
Totally still jam Holiday (not sure if EP or album?). Never looked to see if they had any other music, but that band was awesome.
They had an album too. It was good but I preferred the EP. I have also just found out that the singer is now in Oh Wonder OMG
