Great album. Very Motley Crue coded. I feel like there were a couple other albums that came out around this time that were very 80s metal/hair metal inspired but they’re escaping me at the moment
and after all these years i still love this song, the perfect blend of metal & pop, anyone still listen to breathe carolina?
Same here! For being twenty years old it’s still a blast to jam , I believe I discovered them on a warp tour compilation or something
Used to be really into this album—not going to lie haha. Weirdly I threw it on late last year for the first time in agggges, and I still thought it was solid.
I remember hearing ‘blackout’ on a radio station being played at like BK back in the day and thinking ‘whoa’ up until then I don’t recall ever hearing a band like them on the radio
Massive single for them. I remember hearing it on the radio all the time at one point. Shame the screamer left as they dropped off after this release pretty much.
Stumbled across this the other day and thought a couple folks on this site might appreciate it. The singer from Socratic put out a solo record a couple years ago and he closed it out with a love song to... Socratic. It's really good and the reference to Mark Hoppus producing one of their records made me chuckle. Fun little time warp. If you've never checked them out, you'd like them if you like this song.
oh what, i had no idea he had a solo career, i literally was listening to Socratic's discograpy last year and I swore I looked up if any of them did anything after. I'll have to check this out
Looks like he has two solo records, with one (which the song above is from) sounding mostly like Socratic, and the other being more of a true solo folky kinda thing. Also, lurked on ig and saw Socratic played a show at the end of last year for the 20th anniversary of Lunch for the Sky and vaguely teased about doing more stuff in 2026. Doesn't look like anything has been announced beyond that, but worth keeping an eye on.
In my pre-kids, I would have absolutely flown to NJ for that. Ideally they and Houston Calls and Day At the Fair would just do a "Forgotten New Jersey Drive-Thru Bands" tour for me specifically.
This whole album is so good, WOW, absolutely feels like a new Socratic album. Gonna listen to his second album soon too, thanks for posting
