Phone was dead the other day so I had to dig around for a CD in the car (it is 11 years old) and found a Run For Cover sampler from like 2013-14. Some gems on there that I had forgotten about, but Coasta in particular is one I was so sad never became anything. I have played that 5-6 song EP so many times.
Spotify fed me a Post Animal single, which had me start thinking about another band with Animal in their name - Animal Flag. They released a couple albums in 2009 and 2013 but I don't think I got into them until the LP (a combination of Animal Flag EP and EP 2) in 2016. In 2018 they released Void Ripper and that appears to be the end. Re-visited the LP this morning and I still dig it - pretty good emo-tinged alt/indie rock (similar vibes as The Republic of Wolves). Lead singer always reminded me of Conor Oberst. According to the band's IG, they dissolved back into a solo project for the lead singer at the end of 2018, but he appears to be releasing music under the band name Bronze Vases.
I'm sure they've both been brought up somewhere in here but Down to Earth Approach and Evaline for me
I talked about Down to Earth Approach and how I thought they were going to get really really big. I listen to “Another Intervention” regularly.
I can’t fuckin believe we have new Gatsbys American Dream and The Junior Varsity songs in the year 2025 lol
They were in the studio with Cameron Webb recently. They said "a few songs" so I assume an EP at most, but excited for anything they do.
anyone jam alive like me? early 2000s risecore. reminds me of PTV/SWS. solid debut, but i believe they were a one and done band.
DTEA is good but the more influential project Jon did, at least for me, was The Seams. I can't recommend it enough I went to high school with the lead singer lol
The Seams were so good Spanish American was huge for me. the run of Closer -> Stay -> Coming Home hit me so hard.
I miss Young Guns so, so much. Thought their brief 2022 tour would lead to something but I guess they couldn't make it work
I’m sure I’ve told this story before, but in college I saw Civil Twilight play an 800 cap room to me, the three friends I dragged to the show, and less than ten other people. They played like it was a packed arena and I’ll never forget it. Amazing band.
