Hi guys. Just plugging our chorus’ “album of the week” club. We pick an album every week and discuss—just like a book or film club. We’re breathing new life into the thread so please join and share your obscure recs there!

I love that album, I just don’t know about Ethel Cain (or whatever her real name is) the person.

There was a pop punk band I found either through AP.net or Pure Volume called Mayfield back in the early 00s. They sent me a demo free of charge from the US to the UK. Have never been able to find them online.

Tremendous. Yes I believe it is. I could really only remember the chord progession of one the songs and little else (turned out to be track 4 on that EP) Thank you!

Have been listening to them recently, Autopilot OFF (formerly Cooter). Good solid pop punk. Nothing spectacular but I still like em. All these reunion "mystery" bands that might show up at a Warped tour date, these guys would be perfect.

What happened to Pentimento? It feels like they disappeared off the face of the earth in 2016

Check out Hotel Etiquette. Drummer from Pentimento’s solo thing and it rules.

there is a thread some where I give a lot of news. Maybe even that bands thread. But he said they still rent a practice place they just never use it. “Lights are on but no one’s home”

also said backing up Reggie and the full effect took a toll on them.

Who was into Friday Night Boys? It's not surprising Andrew Goldstein became such a successful songwriter, dude can write catchy shit

Me haha, I saw them once or twice as well. They had some catchy pop rock going off.

I throw on their discog every now and then.

I have their song “Nothing Frequency” on a couple of playlists! They released some singles in 2020 but I never gave them a proper listen.

vanna are back with their original lineup.

  18. Yeah they've been playing under another moniker, Inspirit, for a couple years and after realizing they were adding more and more old Vanna material into their sets and that fans were getting confused, they felt it made sense to use that name again. They're planning on making the Inspirit songs appear under Vanna on streaming services asap and other new ones will come as they write and record them. No album plans yet.

I remember if you preordered this album it would come in a "deluxe wooden frame", which is what I did. It delayed me getting it by a few weeks because they were running behind manufacturing said frames, which were essentially just some cheap plywood pieces glued together to hold the case. Haha.

Having a nostalgia moment with this album, having not listened to it in a long time

I vaguely remember either it being included in the Absolute 100 feature or being pushed by Deep Elm Records back in Summer 2010. From what I remember, it was an indie pop/emo band consisting of all siblings. There's stuff in it that reminds me of The Early November, Lydia, Say Anything, Andrew McMahon's projects... and the DIY sounding mix makes it sound quite unique as well. Wonder what they're up to these days.

yooo stoked to see somebody else had this! I thought they came from a free music Friday haha. iirc this record featured a fraction of the siblings and their follow up featured everybody (I didn’t like it at all…). This really was a great record though, I periodically revisited it over the years/never went too long without listening to it.

  22. Oh yeah you remind me Deep Elm did those free music Friday things, if I recall correctly. That’s probably how I found out about them, much like Athletics and other acts in their past roster.

Super fun pop-punk album that I come back to every now and then. I don’t know where they came from or where they are now.
