that's what's up! i tracked down a sealed copy recently because i never had a physical copy and peep that hype sticker, i miss when labels used to do that!
This is a pretty deep dive, but if anyone remembers Grand Theft Audio, their only album "Blame Everyone" was high octane rock and I just learned they released a new album two years ago after a 22 year break haha. I haven't listened yet, but I will soon
The blast from the past effect of the last post happened to me when I learned Showoff from Chicago have a new EP, 7 years after their already blast form the past revival album in 2017 (their sole officially released album was in 1999). It’s not especially great or unique but I will always have a soft spot for the singer’s voice and this genre of music.
Dr Manhattan might be coming back, they updated their Facebook and made an Instagram account https://www.facebook.com/photo?fbid=1221021565732896&set=a.695360538299004
Thats mine as well! I think Jam Dreams is so fucking good with songs like Mailman and Biscuits and Groovy
does anyone think they'll come back in the next 5-10 years? i think they're literally the last band left since everyone else in the scene has done a show at the very least.
I don’t think so, but it’s always possible. Both Adam and David are in different bands now (All Human and memorydrip) but neither of them have had the same success as Fear Before
This album still sounds dope after all these years. For a 00s band, the production / mix still feels relatively fresh.
here are a few more: https://youtu.be/PnuXltZlpo0?si=kWaJUMR9oFvSWgEH https://youtu.be/lXpVftIyV5A?si=fCJH3dCZ0zMhCmU8 https://youtu.be/u3WEh3lkJ2s?si=SLStOZm4X0bXtmA4
I never loved that first Sky Eats Airplane release, but it was very unique for the scene they were in, and then they just devolved into generic Risecore from there. Sad.
i like the first record and the idea of two dudes and a laptop just making whatever they wanted but that band single-handedly made me only want to do two piece / internet projects just sending files back and forth so i'll always be curious what they'd sound like if they came back.
Even though it'll probably never happen at this point, Emanuel is probably the last remaining band from the mid 00s scene I'm craving a reunion.
The singer Matt did go on a podcast a few years back and said he'd be up for it. Stranger things have happened!
I’d love to see Fear Before return but I think the amount of people that would show up at their shows would be LOW.
