Bandcamp Waives Their Cut Of Sales Today -- What Did You Buy?

There is a lot of buzz going around on Twitter today about labels cutting their fees and commissions to pass 100% of sales to the artists. It also sounds like a number of artists are releasing limited edition digital releases of content.

Do you have any solid recommendations for bands we've maybe never heard of before? What did you buy today?

So far, I've picked up on Bandcamp:

    Eerie Gaits - Bridge Music
    Empty Country - S/T
    Snarls - Burst

Plan to pick up some other things throughout the day.

Site has been a little slow to respond, but I'm taking that as a good sign lots of people are supporting music today!

I have a list of albums I want to buy but Bandcamp is going so slow! Hopefully that means plenty of people are making purchases and is overwhelming the site. I'll eventually be getting:

Hillary Capps - Waxing Moon EP
    Georgia Maq - Pleaser
    Georgia Maq - Cold Summer

I think I read that Meg & Dia have their stuff on their now too. I need to get Cocoon to complete my collection.

Oh damn I wish Person L had the digital versions of Initials and The Positives up there.

Is no one else experiencing the crashing? I purchased an EP 30 minutes ago and I still havent been able to download it.

Yeah, the site has been crashing for me all day long. I ended up downloading the mobile app and listening to what I bought there for now.

I hope they'll extend this no-fees thing over the rest of the weekend since the site has been so wonky today.

Snuck one more purchase in before midnight: Ace Enders - Hireath.

He's never put that up on Spotify for some reason, so I'm glad I finally have this.

    Deafcult - Auras

I was hoping they would extend it, or maybe do it again this Friday? I think a lot of people didn't find out about it until later in the day and missed some buying opportunities for some bands.

Strand of Oaks had changed their pricing to pay-what-you-want for their first three albums, so I picked those up along with Harder Love and some assorted singles I didn't know he posted.

Timothy Showalter (aka Strand of Oaks) seems like a real class act... a genuine guy who just truly loves and appreciates music; and loves making it. Always happy to support him any way I can!

Been posting this on my social media, thought I'd share here too.

Here are my recommendation of artists today during Bandcamp’s Friday of waived fees, who I think are deserving of your support. A mixture of songwriters I love, friends, or a combination of both. Please share far & wide.

Merival: Pretty much my favourite singer/songwriter/person who I’ve had the fortune to discover last year. Anna’s new EP is gorgeous, patient, ethereal. www.merival.bandcamp.com

jodi: A single EP, and almost three years old at this point; but it’s probably still my favourite EP ever. It’s so bloody good Nick. www.jodii.bandcamp.com

Bad Idea: Great, grungey, lo-fi, pop songs from a combination of the sweetest people in Leeds. Highly recommend these songs on the latest EP. www.badideauk.bandcamp.com

Katie Malco: Someone I’ve been distantly aware for awhile, but managed to catch her live at the tail end of last year, and was totally enamoured. ‘Brooklyn’ might be one of the best songs I’ve heard this year. www.katiemalco.bandcamp.com

Bobby Kid: A discovery I made at a house show in Jacksonville, FL that blew me away. ‘Peach’ is an amazing collection of warm, tongue-in-cheek, bittersweet songs. www.bobbykid.bandcamp.com

Crywank: New and final album released today. This band doesn’t really need a description at this point. It is, and will always be, Crywank. www.crywank.bandcamp.com

Bonniesongs: I love the songs on ‘Energetic Mind’. Wistful, joyful, atmospheric, rhythmic, wonderfully creative. www.bonniesongs.bandcamp.com

Another Michael: Another EP that took me by surprise. ‘Land’ is a magical experience. ‘Football’ is an angelic song. www.anothermichael.bandcamp.com

Natalie Evans: Wonderfully talented songwriter, with a distinctly endearing voice, and subtle emo leanings. www.natalieevansmusic.bandcamp.com

A couple of non-music Bandcamp pages:
GoldFlakePaint: an independent music journal, with impeccable writing, and even more so, taste. www.goldflakepaint.bandcamp.com

Solidarity NOT Silence: ‘Women defend themselves against defamation claim made by man in music industry for statements that they made concerning his treatment of women. Group includes ex partner and feminist musicians.’ - see the CrowdJustice page for more info. www.solidaritynotsilence.bandcamp.com

    Last, but hopefully not least:
Tea Leaf (me): I released an EP last year; which tackled my perpetual struggle to stay emotionally afloat while dealing with a dissipating mental frame, fluctuating well-being in the face of grief, loss, & instability. www.tealeaf.bandcamp.com

I grabbed all the Field Report stuff I didn't already own on Vinyl plus the vinyl reissue of Mirrors by U.S. Royalty. If you don't know this band, they are worth checking out. Both Mirrors and Blue Sunshine were great records!

Steven Hyden has a thread on his Twitter where people are making some recommendations I may check out, too. Plus the Chorus COVID-19 Charity Mixtape is a must! Lots of time and lots to buy today!
