    The Verge:

In an email to The Verge, Songtradr confirmed that 50 percent of Bandcamp employees have been extended offers to join Songtradr and reaffirmed from a previous statement the company’s commitment to keeping the Bandcamp experience the same.

Songtradr’s statement also confirmed that its purchase of Bandcamp had been completed, but it did not confirm if it would voluntarily recognize Bandcamp’s union that employees won earlier this year, despite pressure from employees and the Bandcamp community.

    The union has responded.

I hope a new platform rises from it's ashes instead of Bandcamp just becoming another corporate money maker.

I feel like a large majority of people that utilize Bandcamp to support artists, do so because it's been a good platform to get as much money back towards the artists as possible. The consumer desire for a platform to exist with that same mentality still seems to be there.

So disappointing man. I can't think of another platform that is as DIY friendly for bands getting started. Editing the HTML colors of the pages brought back big Myspace era vibes. Can't imagine a scenario where they emerge on the other side of this with a better platform but glad they have the support of a union during all of this

  4. I wanted to remain optimistic following the Epic acquisition, but this seems pretty dour.

From an artist perspective, Bandcamp has been huge for me - I release Bandcamp-exclusive albums, I use the platform to give my music away for free / pay -what-you-want, and I currently use Bandcamp as my sole shop for selling physical copies/merch. It'll be such a big loss to see Bandcamp become an unhealthy platform (or to watch it die altogether).

I'm not going to jump ship prematurely, but I'll need to start looking for what a replacement platform could be.

Yeah, as someone who just listens to music I really do enjoy discovering new bands/artists on there and listening to their entire discography (or most of it) on bandcamp. Would be a bummer if we lost that due to all these changings of leaderships/hands.
