If this line-up were positioned as like, some new festival called "Hard Rock Beach Party" or something, without the emotional baggage that Bamboozle and the last ~2 years of John D's posts behind it... And was at a lower price point? People would be fine with it.

But I think it being under the Bamboozle name, and the expectations tied to that, just makes it look ten times worse than it actually is.

I really have no grasp on what the market for this might be. Or what the demand is for most of the artists in play. Except to say that most of the "pop-punk" gets are on the smaller side and won't really pull in "travel for a reunion set" numbers, I don't think.

Agree with all this. Also doesnt help that this is a destination festival, not a city one like Bamboozle used to be when at the Meadowlands. The kids may love Trippie Redd, but they're not traveling to AC for three nights to see him. Flyleaf reunion could be of interest to some people, but they're not gonna go to this if they can spend the same amount of money to see them at one of those hard rock festivals that pop up in the midwest & south.

For a point of reference, at Bamboozle 2012 in Asbury Park, the final day was headlined by Bon Jovi, Brand New and The Gaslight Anthem. And that final day only moved 35,000 tickets. It fell below expectations and that is why they didnt move forward with the fest the following year.
Someone please explain to me how Bon Jovi/Brand New/Gaslight Anthem couldn't move 50,000 tickets, but John D somehow thinks that Papa Roach/Trippie Redd/Steve Aoiki will??

After all his years in the business he just doesn’t get it. He still does the add together method. Papa Roach draws 6k, plus Trippie draws 8k, plus Aoki draws another 5k, Motionless in White draws 4K. But those numbers don’t work. All those people don’t come. People don’t want to go to a weekend fest for 3 or 4 artists.

the last two years of Bamboozle he tried to use that method and it just didn’t pay off either year.

Looking at the line-up, there is a 0% chance that (delusional as he may be!) John D expects this festival to draw 35k, let alone 50k. I'd put money on their expectations being much lower than that.

But still. Will they be able to get 15-20k people to come out for this thing? Even that's pretty doubtful... And probably for the same reason people didn't go the final year it was in Asbury. Lots of popular artists doesn't equal people actually pulling the trigger and attending when there's so much disparity between the acts and the prices hit a certain level. It's just not worth the trip.

Not only do all of those people not come... But their kinda fake when you put all of those artists together, anyway. At least 1-2k of those MiW fans are interested in Papa Roach. And a solid 25-50% of that 6k Papa Roach draw eats into whatever they're thinking Limp Bizkit might do.

Yeah the Bamboozle 2012 failure was really something and I think that also speaks to Asbury Park being a somewhat inconvenient location from NYC (seriously, doing that train ride to and from for 3 fucking days was a DRAAAAAAAAAG). I also suspect that Bon Jovi is actually not as a high of a ticket draw as they advertise, given how often tickets are available for their stadium shows at Metlife. Foo Fighters headlined Sat and they had already done 3 arena dates the previous year while Blink dropping out certainly didn't help matters (who, again, had played 2-3 area dates the previous year). Oddly enough, MCR was at a commercial lowpoint in that era playing theaters in the US so their draw was also limited.

Finally, I have no idea why a Flyleaf reunion is being so touted. They could barely fill Webster Hall in NYC and hadn't had a legit rock hit in a long time but, then again, I've been checked out of that genre for a while so i could be wrong.

The funniest thing about bamboozle is they used to make their own documentaries about how good of a guy john was lol

He keeps making comments on IG saying they're expecting 50k to attend. I really hope he doesnt actually believe that.
I'm curious what they need to pull in order for this to be profitable. I'd imagine they could pull 10k people.

There were so many articles last year about how specifically curated festivals like WWWY and Lovers & Friends were the biggest successes, while multi-genre fests like Lolla and Roo were struggling with ticket sales. And yet he thought he could still follow that format (to an extreme) and somehow overcome the hurdles that Lollapalooza faced :crylaugh:

People I know that work in the industry, say they have heard they need 10k a day for it to happen. Even getting past everything. It’s been a while since John D had a giant profitable hit on his hands, 2011 Bamboozle, broke even, made little profit. 2012 was a flop, the two skate and surfs did not do well, the 2nd one being a huge flop, Gamechangerworld failed because he thought putting a venue between New York and Philly would be a giant success, all that happen was neither base showed up.

When all is said and done... The biggest draws on the poster are who? Limp Bizkit, Blackbear, and Boogie with a Hoodie (who they technically haven't announced yet)?

10k is feasible with just the right breakdown of artists on each day. But boy is that a stretch... And to pull it off you'd probably tick off most of the weekend pass holders with two other days of artists they aren't so into.

They only have 10k followers on ig… how many of those are buying tickets? 1/2? 1/4? 1/10? With this lineup and this rollout with zero buzz… they’re not getting 10k a day at this price point

At that price point, this probably would be better suited (capacity-wise) going back to Asbury Park Convention Hall.

I'm digging that SHN lineup. Not crazy stacked but a solid amount of acts I enjoy. Certainly in a better venue than Boozle and at a time of year where the weather will actually be nice.

Nice to look at a lineup and see coherence and understand who the target audience is. Hey Johnny maybe take some notes...

Just a reminder that this festival is now less than 3 months away and they STILL haven't officially announced their two headliners (A Boogie and Trippie), plus that blurred album play at the bottom.
Good thing Motionless in White and Bad Omens pull 50,000 tickets on their own, otherwise I'd think this fest was in real trouble!
