Or as John D would say “SHIT THEY DIDNT LIKE THE LIMP BIZKIT/RICK ROSS/STEVE AOKI THING. WE ONLY HAVE THREE WEEKS TO FIND MORE HEADLINERS!”
It seems like he is going for this huge "I TOLD YOU SO" when they release the next phases, but doubt that pans out
According to their comments on their IG post, they couldn’t announce all the artists at once because contractually the artists have to wait for “other announcements” first. Specifically in response to the lack of female acts. Makes me think that phase two is acts that are part of Shaky Knees, which typically announces their lineup in December. Maybe some artists contractually agreed to that being their first festival announcement of 2023. Same probably goes for any artist that may be playing Coachella. Hypothetically.
I don’t know if I buy the argument re: female acts because they had a bunch of male acts ready to go without any contractual issues. True they could be waiting for other obligations to pass but idk it seems fishy.
I just don’t even get the strategy of who he did announce, like the line up is too all over the place for a ton of people to go and spend $341 Friday on a ticket plus hotel etc. like I fully planned on attending because I loved Bamboozle back in the day and my wife never got to go. We booked a hotel already but man so far it’s just Limp Bizkit, Finch, and Gideon for me and that’s just not worth $1000+ for us right now.
Not to come off like a butt.... butttttt I don't understand how or why someone would book a hotel or flight NOW before anything is announced. Thats a pretty big risk.
Hotels are easy to cancel and get refunded in advance before the event, and if anyone's buying flights right now, that's on them tbh.
we booked and can cancel and get refunded at any time. With a lot of the casinos in AC if there is high demand for a weekend then the rates will spike quickly.
Yeah if anything is smarter to book a hotel ahead and then cancel at no risk, cost will only go up and places less available when lineups announce I booked my adjacent bnb immediately when I heard about it and am glad I don’t have to cancel it lol
I actually buy the "contracts" argument. It's too specific and would also explain why this initial line-up was weak as fuck. Hah. Was this announce date in November always planned or was this a panic announcement following Adjacent doing so well?
That’s what I’m thinking. I bet they had a larger announcement planned for December, but after Adjacent was announced they were like “oh shit.” And all these bands were the only ones they could gather that they could actually announce
They've had it planned for a while, we've known for months that tickets would go on sale Black Friday & they've been saying part of the lineup would be announced before tickets go on sale. Totally agree that this phase 1 is meh, but I think I'm one of the few who actually thinks this will be a decent lineup come phase 2 & 3
