Im curious abot the taco truck that was posted multiple times in Bamboozle social media. Wonder if they paid or if they were John's friends
Now Bamboozle says its broke. Probs fans and vendors wont see their money back https://www.nj.com/news/2023/05/bam...still-looking-for-refunds.html?outputType=amp
Has he declared bankruptcy yet? I wonder if anyone is headed there today/this weekend that just has no idea it's been cancelled.
I’ve been curious and maybe it’s buried somewhere in this thread. Do we know who booked Atlantic City first? Did Livenation plan Adjacent to sabotage Bamboozle’s lineup? Or did John D know about Adjacent and thought he could beat Adjacent? Do we know?
The first post in this thread was October 17 and on Adjacent's thread was October 11. But Im not sure if John told about Bamboozle being in AC beforehand, probably he did
No idea on which was actually booked first, but some friends in the industry made me aware of adjacent probably 2-3 months before it was officially announced. Had no idea on lineup or anything, just knew a “smaller scale warped tour” (as they put it) was happening memorial day weekend
John had been talking about Bamboozle 2023 since covid. He teased another location this time last year but I believe AC was the location from last summer on
This is what it felt like, especially considering how they ended on bad terms after 2012. IF that were true, that’s so fucked to the fans that Livenation only decided to have Adjacent to combat Bamboozle. Why wouldn’t they give us a festival for the past 10 years? John D is still an asshole. I’m not defending him.
Here’s the thing- obviously Adjacent had an infinite budget and made a hell of a lineup. but I don’t for a second believe they’re responsible for dooming Bamboozle. John had the brand recognition and goodwill with fans. He could have played his cards differently and I think people really would have rallied around a scrappy independent festival over a big livenation thing. if he really had the money to book bands like Paramore, Turnstile, or Blink & Adjacent stole them from him, he would have just pivoted to similar artists like FOB, ADTR, BMTH, etc. With or without Adjacent, he lied about the headliners. He lied about the scale of the festival. He lied that it would be on par with things like Coachella or WWWY. I think he was always going to release the lineup he did for the price he did & consequently get the response he did. Adjacent had nothing to do with that.
Meh, I think a lot of this speculation has just been created in John D's inflated ego. Yeah, Live Nation and him parted on bad terms. But I'm sure LN has been plotting a festival like this the second they saw WWWY sell out 3 days in record time all the way back in January 2022. It was inevitable they were gonna try and cash in on the emo/pop punk nostalgia here on the east coast.
My guess is Adjacent originated after the final Warped Tour thing they did in Atlantic City and then covid got in the way. Then livenation decided to start with WWWY and after the success of that decided to go forward with Adjacent. I really doubt Bamboozle was any kind of catalyst in their decision making process
That’s all good points. The success of Warped Tour AC and WWWY definitely would’ve incentivized Livenation to establish a new festival in the area.
This. He even mocked multiple times Adjacent lineup, and after all the tease and speculation he under delivered. I feel even if Adjacent wasnt a thing, he wouldnt have booked Blink or Paramore for Bamboozle.
Unfortunately his IG is gone now, but if you had the chance to look through it you'd see that ever since June 2022 he has been lying about the lineup. In June 2022 he said their big headliners were booked (and alluded it to being MCR and FOB). In October 2022 he laughed at Adjacent and stated that Bamboozle had booked 9 headliners, all arena/stadium acts. In November 2022 he said they'd be announcing their top 3 acts in the phase two announcement, and that they would consist of a pop star, a rapper and a rock act. Then in January 2023 he stated that they actually hadn't even booked the headliners yet, and we're experiencing the lineup booking in real time. To me it's obvious that he intentionally was lying to the fans in an attempt to sell as many tickets as he could before spending serious money on a lineup. When he ended up not selling as many presale/early bird tickets as he'd hoped, it became months of scrambling to book a lineup on a minimal budget, and just hoped that no one would remember the false promises he made.
Oh god, this podcast from 2021 randomly popped up in my Youtube feed. I'm only 10 minutes in and don't know if I can stomach listening to this clown for another hour. But three big takeaways already: 1) He claimed that he was bringing a pop festival to NJ in 2022 called Pop Con X. That obviously never happened. 2) He claimed that there was a slight detour in trends but that the future of music involves "people playing instruments again," and that Bamboozle 2023 was going to focus on that; and 3) He claimed that he "broke" The Jonas Brothers and started their career So frustrating, but so entertaining.
If only we heard this podcast years ago, man the writing was on the wall. He says here that he got MCR and Blink 182s last shows before their breakups. That was true for MCR....BUT Blink 182 never played Bamboozle. They dropped out and MCR replaced them. AND Blink 182 remained a band for another 3 years lol. Also says that Bamboozle was the last show TBS did with John & Shaun. But they both left TBS 3 years BEFORE Bamboozle started hahaha I have to keep listening.
To give him credit (I guess?), the last OG TBS show in 2003 was indeed at Skate & Surf. I guess he's counting that.
