Feeing seen - I also tend to check out a bit after Postcard, until Loam which is probably my favorite on the record
I agree, the first half is much stronger. Vibing out for a few songs just to reach Loam is worth it. Nothing on it is bad though IMO
Hmm I think I like the back half better. Loam, Is It So Much to Adore, and Fame are all top tier. I was looking at Spotify play counts and was surprised to see Loam has the least plays of any song on the album.
That’s the shame of it being at the end. A lot of people don’t hear it unless they spin the whole thing
I prefer the second half too, The Afterparty was the song that auto-played every time I got in my car for a while so I got sick of it really fast. Midnight Zone is probably my favorite on the record though.
Is this happening? Postcard Loam Midnight Zone Fame For A Walk Afterparty Is It So Much to Adore Mediocre Love Call It Losing Touch Spinning
Fuck it we ball Loam Spinning Midnight Zone Postcard Call It Losing Touch For A Walk Is It So Much To Adore Fame Afterparty Mediocre Love
Haven’t listened to the album in a while, but the idea of cutting Afterparty is nuts. I remember that opening trio being so good
Revisited this and I don’t think it’s quite the departure it was made out to be. In fact I think the songs that actually do sound markedly different—mid night zone and loam—are probably the strongest tracks here. Feel like if they didn’t break up this would’ve been seen as more of a transitional record I find it largely boring tho
It wasn't that different for me too, aside from a few new tweaks and tricks. It was still a B&C record withouth a doubt, though I heard Jon explaining it was mostly pushed into a direction that their drummer got crazy about at the time being, if I'm not wrong.
Yeah from what I understand Bailey and Vagrant separately influenced the album away from what Jon fully wanted. He says the Slowheart songs are "his songs".
I think it is a huge change. A song like Midnight Zone is drastically different than Parachutes. I don't think that's weird to say.
I agree with Zac. If Spinning had the same production/tone as TTWTAM, it could’ve replaced Tiny Raindrop and the album wouldn’t miss a beat (disclaimer: not saying TR is bad, just saying theyre structured similarly)
Exactly what I heard in a podcast with him, and actually I really loved that whole EP! Would have to go back and check what stands the test of time better, I haven't heard that EP nor the LP in a while.
I get that it structurally and melodically fits into their wheelhouse, but the production is totally different, the distortion on guitars is turned way down, and Jon is singing much less aggressively. I dunno. I think it's pretty different while still being undeniably them.
Not really, you're right - though they did market it as such eventually. To me a big departure is what happened after B&C with coward (Jon and Wicca Phase). I know some people liked it here, but it wasn't for me at all. Love Creeks though now for sure!
