I had heard about the stolen money thing a little while back from a reputable source but that’s the first time I’ve heard it mentioned by Jon or anyone in the band
Yeah I'm glad to have more closure on that now and also glad he basically confirmed they'll do something again
Good lord the shade in that interview lmao. As a fan it’s almost a bit cathartic to hear Jon speak with such conviction about all of that, but yeah I totally get why half way through he has to pause to be like “I’m so sorry” lol
Basically, how it was for them to be on Vagrant and how it contributed to the breakup (disappointing, lack of promotion, person that signed them got fired / left the label, so they were pretty much on their own). How the songwriting changed for their last album (their drummer wrote the majority of the last album / pushed the band in that direction), the slowheart ep ( how those were jon's songs and he originally wanted it on the album). The rest of the factors were the burnout from going non-stop, the internal conflict (specifically with the drummer), and how an unnamed member stole money from the band for over a year (hinted to be the drummer). Jon also spoke briefly about still wanting to do the band and they might later on (minus the drummer) but everyone else has families etc. He also spoke about touring around the last album / the farewell shows. It's pretty short- maybe the first 17 minutes or so is the interview with Jon.
I hate to admit that mf10 was right, though now it totally makes sense why Bailey just vanished off the planet when they broke up. I'm glad Jon is still excited to make music even after all the bs that went down.
I'm glad Jon has Creeks as an outlet right now, really digging the latest release and the possibility of full band release with them. Hopefully everything comes together for B@C folks who want to do something with it in the future without the burden of what broke them up.
What do people like about slowheart relative to their other work? Never been able to get into it myself, don't like the choruses much.
Slowheart songs are like the perfect middle ground between TTWTWM and LWM and all have top tier BalCo melodies
i don't think anything would top TTWTWM for me; it's not only my favorite B&C album but most days i think it's the best album of the genre from that era imo. Slow Heart is cool but I think it's my least favorite entry from them post-Separation
I love how this is a Vagrant podcast and Jon is more or less explaining that Vagrant sucked to be on. I am glad he aired some of the laundry about the breakup and left things open for a potential reunion.
i cant believe jon revealed that hes been posting here under a pseudonym the whole time. i never wouldve thought he was actually musi--
Only logical reason to say B&C is 10x the band jimmy eat works is, gotta have that confidence in yourself
What makes him such a great songwriter is his openness and honesty, i'm not surprised that stems from his personality. Just seems like an all round good dude who writes honest music.
Slowheart is their peak, up there with Moving mountains and American Football on my essential fall listening list
I listened again and I do like the groove on this song and especially Revelation, but the choruses still fall flat for me. Verses have interesting stuff but I really want the vocals to pick up in energy during the chorus along with the rest of the song. I thought the last album managed that a little better because the choruses aren't as energetic, musically, so the vocals fit more. But to each their own, this EP just ain't for me. If I'm honest the only front to back things I liked from this band were Separation and the TJ split.
I’m gutted the drummer is responsible for this band no longer making music! Such a disgrace! By far still one of the best bands out there that need to regroup and do more albums. Go listen to the song more to me! Tell me it’s not musical genius!
