TTWTWM is my favorite balance record by a mile, it clicked with me so hard at the time and I couldn't stop listening to it for months. If anything, I wanted more of it! Still disappointed I never got to see them live. Maybe they'll do a reunion some day.
I feel personally attacked that you would cut I'm Swimming, but I think I would feel that about most songs here.
Their half of the Braid split was great too. More of my 2013 was spent listening to those two songs on repeat than I even care to admit haha. As much as I wound up liking TTWTWM, I had set an impossibly high bar for it in my head
The first song I heard by Balance was Kaleidoscope, but it was on the day Separation was released. So that was a crazy day. For years I’d seen this band’s name and assumed they were a metalcore band hahah. Randomly gave them a whirl that day and fell in love immediately
Meant to type “before”. Interesting I would have assumed it was after. Esp considering both of those Braid songs were on No Coast.
According to Wiki the Braid split was 2012 and TTWTWM was released in September of 2013. 7 years ago. crazy. EDIT: It was February 2013, not 2012.
Right? Sonically it makes more sense. Obviously Jon’s not yelling on Things as much as Separation, but I had definitely built it up in my head as something that was gonna be significantly less aggressive overall
I remember being so bummed, thinking things was gonna be so soft, and then the first song kicked my teeth in
TTWTWM would be my favourite if the production didn’t threaten to blow my head off from the very beginning lol
Man. It’s just so flat. Yip got better over time but I don’t think I’ll ever forgive him for how he did that record
TTWTAM is my favorite even with the production issues. It was my first record from the band so I think it holds a soft spot for me. That section after the chorus in Lost Your Name still blows my mind whenever I revisit the album
Seeing them tour on TTWTWM with Title Fight touring Floral Green and B&C opening with Parachutes and Lost Your Name is a highlight concert moment for me.
yeah just gotta echo that the first four-song stretch on Things is absolutely killer. I wouldn't cut anything from that record or change the production, it's perfect.
Just in case anyone hasn't seen this. Jon sounds rough a lot of the time, but it's still a good listen.
