If I had to give a numerical score to show how much this grew on me, I'd say it went from a 6.5 to an 8.5. I still listen to this a lot.
Yeah, this, Turnover -Peripheral Vision, and Somos - First Day Back are probably my favorites of the softer, atmospheric alt-emo (wtf is that tag but probably most accurate to me)
I liked Dealer a lot (such a cool record to drive through the woods at night to), but something about it didn't have too much staying power. Didn't really resonate I guess. Hard to deny the level of talent the band has though.
i listen to it constantly. they're from where im from and the record really sounds like how the city feels during the cold fall/winter months.
Were you a part of the convo on the MoMu thread about this? Because if I remember correctly, you got me to listen to Appleseed Cast. Gonna listen to Dealer and Low Level Owl today then! I listened to Dealer in the springtime so maybe it was a timing thing. I always find it interesting when a band or artist is able to portray a city's feeling which gives the album more context and makes it feel larger. And then there was Views. -_-
I think so, yeah... that's one of the best albums ever, it makes me feel a certain way I'm sure you will love it also, this one fits nicely with your genre description and is pretty amazing: this is another obvious choice and the obvious classic of MovMou s/t of the stuff being listed here, I'd rank it: Tier 1. LLO + MovMou Tier 2. Dealer + Seismograph Tier 3. Turnover (I still really like this one even if it's basically an emo/pop punk band discovering Real Estate and mimicking them) & Gates Not good: Somos (I adore everything Somos released before this album, but I feel they failed miserably at what they tried to achieve on this one, which is a shame, because they were sooo good at what they did before - I still respect them a lot for trying something new and feel they might still have it in them if they refocus their energy in something else) B&C
are we going to get into this discussion again somos's good releases: the new album somos's bad releases: everything else signed cwhit sucks that they aren't a band anymore though, though it seemed like based on people's reactions to that record they were refocusing in a negative direction anyways
Yeah, I have Parallel Lives, Peripheral Vision, and First Day Back all on vinyl, so I likey. Somos' newest album is much more consistent to me, and the back half starting with Days Are Long til the end is their best stretch of songs by a mile. But this shouldn't be the conversation here. It's been done before.
the light we made thread becomes the how i feel about somos thread with a strange amount of regularity. i feel like i still need to come back to this to see how it stands now
not really, it's hard to be a band when 75% of your fanbase is actively disparaging your music not to mention their drummer that joined after the first record left the band, whom i spoke to when they came the town and he much preferred the new album, left again.
it was a joke anyway, it's not the fans' fault that a band disbands - bands should do whatever the fuck they want regardless of fan sentiment
I mean, its extremely tough when you build a fanbase and that potential revenue be ripped out from under you to the point where you can barely even sustain a small club tour, especially when your prospects after your debut was definitely on the upswing. If Apple lost 50% of their iPhone sales because of their lightning port shennanigans, they would need to adjust their strategy accordingly. If you're already small, and then lose most of your momentum, its hard to make the endeavor sustainable.
I understand that, that's why art (which tends to be a highly personal thing) is such a difficult way of life
oh man I envy you so much I remember riding a train to that song and everything was covered in snow and nothing mattered and it was amazing those hammer ons/pull offs they do at points (e.g. 0:46) make me shiver and then how it explodes and the vocoder ahhh
Dealer and FIL's new album are really good and the only stuff from the genre that has stuck with me on some level thus far
Now I would only want to listen to a track from this on my tablet or phones speakers. Everytime I hear it in my car it's like I wanna ruin my systems eq just to get rid of the thundering bass and overall muddiness. It cannot be dialed out.
