A bit late but Light We Made ( > Promise Everything) > Hyperview > Peripheral Vision > EIGTH I was never able to get into that Somos record unfortunately.
i agree, listened to it a couple of times. it's interesting and that first one was the worst kind of dull where even the hooks have me sighing. but they went from like really boring to just good/decent. still felt transitory is all, hope they build off it and ignore the mixed reception to make something really great. but then i could've changed my mind since I last heard it, i guess
I have a bad feeling since they brought their OG drummer back and the guy who did the new record loved the new stuff so...we'll see I think it's the best hopeless release in years not that the bar is that high
well, it would suck if they couldn't reach as high as they're capable of, but ultimately im not attached to them in anyway. still hoping for something good from them, i wanna see what other people see. i think the last thing i loved from hopeless was suburbia by the wonder years, but i haven't listened to that in actual years
tgg was the better album but at that point in my life pop punk wasn't really something i enjoyed listening to on the whole anymore so i just liked it whereas suburbia came at the perfect time. i still think that band is a lot better than a lot of pop punk, but Chumped is probably my favorite from recent years before the list dries up. coincidentally, both balance and the wonder years are bands i don't think need a third guitar player, well. at least until this album in regards to balance.
yesss, it's really good, and almost fills the Chumped shaped hole in my heart -- which is to say i love it but it's not the same, nor did i want it be. Seeing Katie Ellen later this month is as close as I'll get to seeing Chumped live tho
I really love this album, already it's easily my favourite release of theirs. I love how chill it is, the melodies are great and have been stuck in my head since my first listen, and I love the risks Jon took with his vocals. Seriously could not be happier with this release.
i barely remember the new somos beyond what i felt on initial listen but it was definitely decent. and anyway, i would prefer bad to boring tbh, that might be weird but it falls into how i view art in general
this is fair, but i think that while it maybe didn't achieve everything they wanted, that album was a more interesting listen because i just expected more generic stuff from them, which is how i felt about their first album
guy hardly seems like a fan if hes so quick to trash their new output i peeped the new somos after learning maas produced it. so much better than i remember them being.
all the little electronic flourishes are really cool, they definitely pushed themselves on this release
I'm relistening to the most recent Somos just to see how my mind has changed and come on im like two songs in this is immediately better than the entirety of Temple of Plenty. The beginning has some cool Early November vibes that I didn't hear the first time. The vocalist still sounds weirdly stiff but definitely less so than I remember Temple of Plenty sounding. Final verdict, Temple is not my bag -- my first instinct is still to say it sucked --, and this is a lot closer and a thousand times more fun to listen to but they can probably do better considering this is their first venture into this kind of expansion of their sound.
Feels like I'm being unnecessarily mean about Somos so sorry to anyone who like, loves them or Temple of Plenty, new one is good just not in love with it that's how I'll end it also I looked for the Somos thread to say this before I remembered that this was happening here
