this begins stronger than it ends but the back half is still good, really feeling "it is so much to adore"
I mean, technically speaking that's the very definition of "shoegaze" though considering that it refers to you staring down at your pedal board the entire song. But yeah I hear you. This album is dope and even if it's not shoegaze in the traditional, my bloody valentine sense there are some really cool guitar tones on this record and I'm feeling it big time.
This. Definitely think the front half is better but It Is So Much to Adore and the closing track roped me back in there. I still am not into Postcard as much as some others seem to be. Reminds me of mewithoutYou at points which I like but then the other parts I don't like so much.
the origin of a genres name doesnt really uhhhh classify the sound of that genre you know? for example like, kevin parker has a huge pedal board and is looking at it all the time but is tame impala shoegaze? no of course not. yeah the name of shoegaze came from people looking at their pedals but once a name sticks the finer characteristics of the genre become more pronounced over time to make it more than just about pedals and staring at your feet.
That's true. I guess this goes back to my whole genres are stupid thought processes because I can never classify things right. I don't know what I'd classify this as but I also definitely wouldn't classify it as shoegaze at least in the sense the genre is normally classified. But is it like, post-punk? I don't know there are some really interesting musical vibes in here and genres do a really poor job of classifying anything that isn't completely straightforward.
Hyperview is very distinctly showgaze in parts but honestly I hear The Smiths more than anything. Anywho I am super excited to listen to this. Have only listened to Postcard so I'm happy it will be fresh to me
Love this album. I bought 2 different presses of this album last month so I'm glad it met my expectations haha
Oh god I hope. I got one of the US preorders and a UK preorder just cause. Got my fingers crosses they sound good.
genres aren't stupid though and I think it's silly when people say so It's just a way to describe things. I'd say this album is alt rock with some influences from other more atmospheric genres. It's as easy as that really. All that kind of conversation is trying to do is describe the music and the influence chronologically
I love Is The Is Are I don't think it's wrong to describe parts of this and the other albums mentioned as shoegaze-y? They're not primarily shoegaze albums, and no one's arguing that they are haha. They have genre-specific elements in common, that's the only point being made. Discussions like this are exactly why people just wind up saying genres are stupid.
It's a cool album and I definitely like most of the ideas explored on here, if not the execution of those ideas. But I do miss loud Balance & Composure.
Murder your memory is the best example of any scene band trying to go shoegaze. Shame the rest of the record doesn't follow suit
