OH YEAH it was this review where they compared them to linkin park "Reflection" by Balance and Composure Review | Pitchfork
except for not close to the first time for sure But damn they gave album a 6 tho now I have to like it now
i mean like modern emo revival stuff, that was around the time all those ian cohen reviews started coming in and people were so confused, haha
it was definitely like springish of 2013 that i think this "Scene" started getting coverage on sites like p4k and stereogum.. at least thats when i started noticing
yup, went through, crash of rhinos track was a week before that track review, AGBPOL a month before that...but that was basically the time ian started being allowed to write about "emo" on pitchfork
yeah TWIABP album review came right after, once the first few started they just kept happening that was a weird two month stretch, haha
What a strange video. I think I love it, though. Also have to echo the sentiments about this being one of the best songs of the year. If the rest of the record hits me like this song did I might have another AOTY contender to deal with.
Why are they trying to make their music video like a shroom trip? I would never want to listen to this band on such a substance
I guess it's just to do with the themes of the song and how it's dealt with kinda thing. Though I can't recall the lyrics.
The chorus is really the only thing that seems a little reminiscent... the video is way too over the top for that though lol
Ah yeah, I was referring to the chorus mostly, and more so sonically than lyrically anyway I think! Either way, music videos have been redundant for quite some time I've found.
Redundant? I guess in the sense of music videos being essentially an advertisement for your band, yeah, those days are long gone, but I hardly think they were going for heavy MTV airplay or anything. It's an extension of the art in a medium that was mostly used for commercial purposes but is still valid on its own
Well yeah, I'm talking from an advertisement perspective and that's just my narrow-minded opinion. I'm not disputing the art behind it.
Fair enough. It was just an interestingly worded opinion because it's not 2003 and no one is putting up music videos trying to sell 100k extra units or smth outside of the mainstream and it seemed like it was said with a dated thought process. Didn't mean to attack you! I was just confused
Yeah I get that. I mean I've had this, as you say, dated attitude towards videos for ages. I rarely ever sit through a video, and if I've not got a copy of whatever I'm listening to, the video would be open on another tab. Thought process behind it is particularly dumb I guess, in that I got tired of seeing my favourite bands release God-awful videos that tarnished the songs for me and pandered to the wrong audiences. But I get what you're saying yeah - this is just the mindset of a tired Brand New fan, sat twiddling his thumbs and still waiting haaa
Usually I like most music videos, but I couldn't watch this one for more than a minute or so. Absolutely putrid video.
I wasn't even trying to say the video is bad, just that this band isn't psychedelic... like at all... so it seems like a weird thing to try and tap into.
