Keep You sounds good over all for me. There are parts where I wish little details in the background were louder / more in the foreground, but over all I like the way the record sounds
I love this song in a real way. More excited for this record than anything this band's done up until it.
Worst Yip album to me is Death Chorus by Polar Bear Club. The guitars on that album sound terrible and it's obvious Yip just didn't have any vision for what the album should sound like.
lots of Yip hate in here... He's produced some of my favorite albums of the current decade. Charmer Everybody Is Going To Heaven Violent Waves Keep You Floral Green Hyperview The Things We Think We're Missing Pale Horses Rooms of The House Self Love This list makes up a good portion of my "albums that mean something to me" list.
yeah ill be the first to admit i dont know shit about production but it seems like he gets unfairly pooped on a lot...
Ok those are your favorite albums. But are you a fan of their production? Do you think it could be better?
I actually laughed out loud because I listened to that album yesterday, noted how fucking awful it sounds, and already forgot about it.
As a massive PBC fan, I was just destroyed by how far they fell on that album in regards to the songwriting and Jimmy's voice. Fortunately for Yip, that overshadowed just how bad the production is.
I like a lot of these albums too, but the biggest issue I have with Hyperview, TTWTWM, Rooms of The House, and Keep You is the production. Which isn't to say Yip is always bad--I like the sound of the Hostage Calm record he did a lot, new B&C single sounds great, etc--but I really dislike the classic Will Yip sound. Very flat and dull and boring to me, for the most part.
Yeah, it's a pretty huge step down from Clash Battle Guilt Pride. I didn't like it at all when it came out, but it's grown on me some over the years. Now I basically just think it's a relatively good Saves The Day rip off.
I love Violemt Waves, but the production job on that one is really bad as well. The Lottery in particular just sounds so hollow and lacks the punch that it tries desperately to deliver.
The yip stance is weird because I think he is an amazing collaborator. He gets the bands to get their vision out but he sometimes doesn't bring it home with the final mix. The records are good and sound serviceable but an extra set of ears before mastering would go along way.
Charmer, Hyperview, and Floral Green I think benefit from Will Yip's production, I love the way those sound. Pale Horses sounds off compared to the other mwY albums. Not bad, but like Aaron's voice when he screams has a weird effect on it, and in general the vocals sound very unlike the rest of their discog and I'm really on the fence about how I feel about it. That being said, the actual songs are sick as hell. The rest of his stuff I've heard I don't have much of an opinion about except the last Balance record. That one needs work, the more I notice things about it.
Can't turn this song off. So, so excited for this record, which surprises me. I think Will Yip is fine, but I don't listen to enough albums he's had his hands on to really formulate any kind of hot take.
Will Yip is the literal worst. He has one production style and sound and tries to use it for every band. He sucks.
He's like, a super nice guy right? Isn't everyone and their mother a fan of working with him? Seems real weird shitting so hard on that kind of dude bc you dislike the way he makes a style of music I'm assuming you're usually into
Yeah apparently he's been great to work with. I wonder if he doesn't charge as much as other producers too.
