I don't think I ever listened to the Slow Heart songs until Sunday, but I haven't been able to stop listening to them since. Probably my favorite release from this band.
Yeah seems like everyone was saying, “why in the world weren’t these on LWM?” when they came out. Seem to remember Jon saying something like they were “his songs”, insinuating the loudest voice in the room (Bailey) didn’t let them shine like they should’ve.
I’m listening to that Vargrant podcast now where Jon speaks about that period of the band I feel awkward because when I saw Jon perform as Creeks in 2021 opening for Anthony Green, I went up to him and told him how I was a big fan of Light We Made and thought it was the best stuff they ever did, and he did thank me, but then I found out since then that there was so much conflict during the writing/recording process and that whole era was tough on the band Wish I had listened to the Slow Heart songs so I could have told him that was my favorite lol
Heard the same thing on a podcast with Jon, that Bailey had a very strong vision for their shift in style etc., so he consequentially bugged them to do things his way then, but Jon was also excited to get the EP songs out later on. I'm happy with all the material we got, but bitter about the vibe they needed to endure.
I wouldn’t feel awkward about it. I’m sure Jon is especially proud of his vocal performance on that album, adding falsetto, and more vocal effects that carried on into his solo ventures.
Despite that all making sense, could’ve sworn Slow Heart not being album songs was a label decision. Either way I think it’s also my fav release of theirs despite LWM maybe being my least fav of the albums. Any way, NY ticket secured, cannot wait Im so pumped
Yeah I suppose after listening to the podcast…I don’t get the sense that he doesn’t like that album. Rather, he obviously doesn’t like Bailey and it was difficult to tour on when the guy who signed them left around the time the album came out and no one reached out to the band about it and paying them. Also mentioned needed fill-in guitarists because a couple of the guys couldn’t do yours at the time.
This is correct. The label wanted those songs to be released as an EP and Jon wanted them on the album.
I really want to go to LA show but my sister is coming into town to see my 8 week old daughter. is this my life now?
100%, yes. I’m in a b market and used to go to EVERYTHING here and make frequent drives to Atlanta. Now I might make it to Atlanta for something major once a year and catch about 1/4 of the ones in town.
Seeing these guys next weekend in Queens and couldn't be more excited. I think the last time I saw them was like 2013? One time with Polar Bear Club right after Separation and then the same venue when TTWTWM was released. If I'm remembering correctly Daylight / Superheaven were on direct support for the latter show because Taylor came out for Patience.
Man Taylor never disappoints with his designs, hope theres some extras online at some point. Would love to cop one of those tees.
I took my partner and a good friend, both only casually know the band, to the reunion show in Philly a few weeks ago. They disappeared for almost 2 songs and came back with the yellow elephant shirt and another gray one as gifts for me. Arguably the sweetest thing I've ever experienced at a show. I've worn both a few times since already.
So what's the deal ? they put out 2 of their best songs ever, only tour like a few places, this is killing me. Are we getting a full album? Are they going to do a full tour? Also these setlists are so goooooddd
Yeah I was full on soaked in sweat I’m shocked I didn’t pass out, crowd was one of the best I’ve experienced though, lots of respectful and passionate people. Insane concert, I think they will continue to make music and probably do similar mini tours like this spread around their personal schedules
