That take about the cure is flat out wrong

REM are just a singles band

 

These days I think Faith is my favourite (The) Cure album. Pornography second.

 

Maybe an obvious question but what do you mean by “album band” here? Like just that they have no misses? Or something else

 

in both cases, I think the listed albums are the first in their discographies that are great front to back and are great ALBUMS, before each I think a lot of the non-singles tracks aren't very good or the albums feel like a collection of songs rather that an artistic piece.

 

My top 3 Cure albums are pre-Kiss Me

 

My favourite REM and Cure albums are no REM and Cure albums

 

That’s harsh on The Cure, I’ve got no real opinion on them. Can’t stand REM, though

 

Gotcha. Damn, yeah that latter part is tough to quantify but I definitely feel like at least Pornography, Faith, and Seventeen Seconds accomplish a “vision” of some kind, even if you felt like the quality was varied. But for what taste of yours that I know, I’m mostly suprised that you haven’t included Head On The Door!

Where does their run as an “album band” stop for you? Or does it?

 

REM aren't a single or an album band

 

I still enjoy the ones you are listing, and considered Head on the Door as the start, but honestly when I really listen to those albums, I feel like there are a lot of songs on each albums that are just... there. A lot of tracks that I forget immediately after listening, feel like filler

I would be willing to bet that most people who say they hate REM are basing it off their 90’s stuff and not their 80’s material

 

I'm basing it off of having listened to their music

 

I love REM and I’m basing that on their ‘90s stuff

 

i like automatic for the people so much for how bored to tears i am by every other album of theirs ive tried

it's weird cuz i also know their influence on so many things i love is massive, but i just find them really OK for the most part

 

I listened to most of the albums when Scott and Scott covered REM on their podcast and most of them are very boring.

You absolutely would know multiple songs by each band

 

If you are on this site you would almost definitely like several Cure songs
