Time for my annual post in the bad opinions thread that McCartney's Wonderful Christmastime is a good song

I seriously have deep childhood nostalgia for that song and I'm not even quite sure why. It takes me back to how amazing Christmas always felt when I was like 10. No idea why it's generally agreed to be a shitty song

because the synth and it’s the most granny melody of all the paul melodies

I’m not gonna listen to it on my own free will but it’s pleasant enough any time I’m in the store and it comes on.

The only Christmas music that I will actively throw on is the Charlie Brown soundtrack and Christmas with the rat pack

Getting caught up on this thread and I have nothing to contribute about Oasis or Christmas music that hasn't been already said, but here are two nitpicky things I have to respond to:

    Mainstream metal - yes.
Underground metal - fuck no. At a minimum, I'd argue that death and black metal were at their best during the 90s.

Probably a lukewarm take, but I'd rather listen to all of these bands over older stuff because it's more interesting to me. Soul Blind put out one of my favorite EPs of the year so it's dope to see them get some shine here.

I think “Happy Christmas (War is Over)” is the much more annoying Beatles Xmas song

Oh for sure, death and black metal really grew from their roots during this time, death metal especially. The early to mid 90’s is the golden era for that subgenre.

I’m searching for the Radiohead thread and for some reason I’m forced to read this post before reaching my destination. Wish I hadn’t.

yeah one of a few glaring blind spots in my music listening. glad I finally got to them. surprised it took me so long tho, not just bc they influenced so many of my formative faves but also bc I tend to love Steve Albini’s work and Surfer Rosa is one of the bigger albums he’s done.
