honestly the music that was immediately spawned after and influenced by grunge that dominated the radio by the year 2000 and then hung on another decade is what “killed rock n roll”. it was so dominant in my city I couldnt imagine how they didnt have every single person with ears completely fatigued by it.

not really the case, soundgarden got way heavier and way more psychedelic, and pearl jam was way more power-pop at times but that’s fine

it would be like saying the who and pink floyd were in the same space. not really sonically at all but not worth splitting hairs about

Jar Of Flies might well be my favourite but Dirt is the classic. I'm loath to use this word usually but it is pretty undeniable.

stone temple pilots are secretly the most interesting band of that era. the way they mix in glam, but not in an over the top way like mother love bone, is really cool

also this is required listening. singer of AIC, guitarist of PJ, and then members of screaming trees, but it sounds nothing like those bands. a+ indie kinda ballad.

my favorite alice in chains album is the s/t. it took a few listens to really "get" it but no other album in history sounds like it. riffs like creeping basement mold

yeah i have to be in the right (or wrong depending on how you look at it) headspace but when i’m looking for that vibe it hits better than anything

the 10 minute All to Well isn’t very good and actively takes away from what made the original version so good

The outro is one of the parts I really don’t care for. Just doesn’t really feel necessary.

Seconded! Not a bad opinion! Irritates me so much that this is not on streaming. I actually LOST my CD copy somehow, I spent over an hour looking for it last time I moved.

And the other day when Spotify was down for an hour or so, my first thought was to listen to Zeitgeist on Youtube. I enjoyed it but YouTube audio quality is fucking awful, I will say that.

Pearl Jam is one of those bands I’ve tried for many years to get fully into and I just can’t. Don’t think they’re bad or anything, it just doesn’t click with me as a whole.

Rearviewmirror is a really good Pearl Jam retrospective/Greatest Hits that got me into them a fair amount. Only recently have I dug into more full length albums

Black Gives Way To Blue was much better than I could've expected for a reunion album, but I still think the follow-ups are disposable. When it comes to old and new AIC, I think I miss the experimentation they used to have the most. I feel like, when Jerry writes for AIC, he now pretty much stays in a single lane and rarely departs or deviates from it anymore. It makes mostly everything blend together.

There's a lot of filler on Pearl Jam's albums, but their best songs are as good as the best of Nirvana or Smashing Pumpkins. Soundgarden, Alice in Chains and STP are on a lesser tier, but still good.
