I had never listened to The 1975 until now. Seems generic and harmless really.

Somewhere Only We Know is a legitimately great song. I liked Is It Any Wonder? back in the day too.

The keyboard/synth on “Bedshaped” are so good.

  4. The 1975 are one of those bands where I will always be surprised when someone that’s even remotely into pop/rock says they don’t like them. But also, not everyone can like every thing, so

I kinda do get this though. I really like The 1975 and the rabid fandom is even a little much for me at times haha, can definitely see how someone that doesn’t like the band would be very off put by it.

Yeah I don’t think they’re bad but the songs I’ve heard haven’t stood out in any way.

Edit: I completely forgot The City was in an NHL game, that song drove me nuts.

    hmmm

They're pretentious pricks. I like a few songs but there are so many other things I'd rather listen to.

I never really bit on the hype before, but their last album is pretty undeniable. You should listen.

Yeah the first couple records kinda honk but the newest album has some real good stuff on it

I just spent a little while checking out some of their songs, and I definitely like The 1975 a whole lot less than before I did that. They are just not for me.

I don't like The 1975 Matty just writes about sex and killing himself and how he hardly ever went to school

I was not a fan at all until this last album. Thought the singles were way more accessible and catchy than the previous stuff. Worth a shot if someone hasn’t given it one yet.

"It's Not Living" has settled as my favorite off A Brief Inquiry along with "Inside Your Mind" and "I Always Wanna Die". I feel that song is painfully underrated

I came around to Somebody Else so I'm sure if I gave them another shot I'd enjoy them. I've been meaning to. People post a lot of negative 1975 opinions in here so I imagine it's more common than people realize.

Yeah I love the 1975 but this is one of the only places I see pretty unanimous praise for them. Most other places online trash them.

I can't help but attempt to read abbreviations as words even in my head - 'ABIIOR' was a fun one.

I need to give ABIIOR time before I make a call as to whether or not I like it or ILIWYS more. I do think it is simultaneously their most focused and most diverse album and, from a purely technical standpoint, their most impressive work. They’re both superior to the self-titled tho.

I loved their sound on the EP’s and first LP. I think just about every song was a fun pop rock song. ILIWYS has a lot of filler for me, but the singles were a ton of fun. A lot of the new album is really far out from the aspects of the band that I loved, and it’s been hard for me to really get into it as much. I still think it’s fun to listen to, but I’m not going back and listening over and over again like I was before. That first album never left my speakers for months and months.

Continuing my day-long rant about how great Keane is, I went back and listened to Under The Iron Sea today as well, and tracked down some of the b-sides from it too. These guys really are fantastic, and they have some incredible songs, but I do have to say they are TERRIBLE at picking which songs to put on the album and which songs to relegate to b-sides. I don’t remember ever liking one of their albums all the way through after their debut, and I definitely do remember a huge disparity between the good songs (often singles) and then some very, very boring songs. A lot of their b-sides are extremely good and are A LOT better than some of the weaker album tracks. Like it’s not even close.
