Maybe they really hate your city. I’ve seen them 3 times and they fucking nail it each time.

Yeah. I was gonna say. The statement about all of their songs running together also baffles me a bit...their discography is pretty diverse sonically at this point even when comparing Major/Minor to Palms.

Speaking of American Football, their new American Football song might be the best thing they've ever put out after listening to it 3-4 times.

I'm not a huge Thrice fan, I like them enough, but I saw an opening set ten years ago and it went hard, all bangers

I dunno what to say! I'm never alone in thinking so either, so maybe it was just three bad shows.... ? :/

    No Fun. Not Ever.

I actually left before their set on the Gates/La Dispute tour. Didn't really care to see them, plus I was starving.

  6. Things I learned in other threads today: it’s a hot take to not like the new Mitski album and to not like Florence and the Machine. I’m in both of those camps.

holy hell. i just spent the past few days catching up on all the music released in 2018....popular music, new albums released, ec. that was a CHORE.

idk if its unpopular or not but...holy shit 2018 sucked. The pop/hip hop world all sounds exactly the same, with just differnt reshuffling of different artists per song, and the punk world had nothing, pop punk world is non existent, and the indie world is Imagine dragons bullshit. Man, remember last year when Portugal the Man had a top 10 song! That was fun.

    Ugh rough rough year

  8. Not trying to be snarky, but if you’re listing Imagine Dragons as the catch-all archetype for “indie” in 2018 then I feel like you’re probably not looking in the right places haha. This year, like every year imo, ruled for music. Were there any records you actually did like this year? Maybe someone in here can point you in the right direction based on those!

No no it's not necessarily about good albums or what not....im talking more so the 'mainstream' stuff for the year.

Just felt like a totally down year in terms of "big songs". Like I just listend to spotify's top 50, while I recognize like 30 of them, I don' really consider any of them to be "great" or "memorable". Overall just not impressed with this year's pop.

Last year I also had all my favorite artists come out with albums and discovered a good amount, but regardless of that, I'm mostly disappointed in the mainstream.

The best decade ever for music is the current one. You can't honestly analyze the 60s and 70s in terms of greatness without acknowledging the societal and technological barriers that most people could not overcome.

The guy saying pop music was bad in 2018 isn’t completely off base. I was forced to listen to the radio a lot this year due to broken phones and shit. There are a lot of bad, interchangeable songs being played on pop radio. A lot.

Yeah I think Craig Jenkins made the point that a lot of different popular genres are starting to sound blended together. I tend to agree

looking at all the songs i marked off throughout the year, sure, i definitely recognize a bunch, and have heard them on the radio from time to time. But i dont think any of them blew up to gigantic levels this year..and well, i dont think any of them really stood out as anything too memorable.

So yes, plus none of my favorite bands released anything this year, 2018 music kinda sucked ass.
