Double post but here goes: Synthwave is formulaic bullshit that could be written by five year olds and has nothing on cold wave / post punk.

I've always hated this argument. If some five year old wrote a good song, I'll fucking listen to it. I don't give a shit how my music is made.

 

idk man, that new Midnight record is pretty dope driving music if you ask me

 

Music that is formulaic isn't automatically bad. There are TONS of amazing songs that are formulaic.

 

What is synthwave specifically?

 

all music using the word 'wave' as a descriptor is bad. unless it's surf rock /s

 

Top of my head, I want to say Kavinsky. I could be wrong though.

 

don't bring "THE WAVE" into this now. la dispute's such small hands will fight you on this.

synthwave is cool in my book. GOST and Carpenter Brut are pretty dope.

 

I'll agree here. GOST is fucking sick.

 

I whine about this all the time but songs from rich artists like glamorizing being poor or living paycheck to paycheck is so annoying and condescending and also kinda feels like weird propaganda to like romanticize poverty and placate us with ~anthems while they rake in millions. Like I don't need to hear pitbull singing about paying his rent late or Taylor swift singing about having bills to pay and working thru college. Yall need to get out my face!! If you don't panic and stress and worry about affording to see the Dr or like having shelter than stfu!!!!

 

I think a lot about how like every Bruce Springsteen, Billy Joel, and Bon Jovi song is about some factory worker making minimum wage and all the tickets to their concerts cost like $300

 

New Jersey buys the fuck out of all of that right there.

Outside a handful of songs, Underoath bores me to tears. Very overrated band.

 

I can only listen to songs from Define the Great Line. Some decent harder tracks on that.

 

Define is great. Lost In The Sound of Separation is amazing though.
