I listened to the singles from his upcoming album. Totally innocuous, inoffensive music. Reminds me of Noah Kahan more than any pop punk stuff. But yeah, I don't know what there is to get mad about there.

 

it's definitely the short with the interpretive movements with the people illuminating with their cell phone flashlights that makes it so terrible to me. puts him in the same category as the first time i saw hobo johnson pop up on my screen honestly.

the studio versions sound innocuous and inoffensive after a quick perusal.

 

The lyrical content is absolutely cringe-y because it reads like a bunch of reddit comments about the economy and is just really stale. I hear some Wonder Years-ish in there, but so many artists are just trying to copy that rn.

petey’s music is lukewarm at best. his tiktok’s are funny though. dancing in the suburbs guy is like a really bad langhorne slim.

 

that song is driving me insane because it's all over TikTok and it comes on like every 5th reel whenever my wife is scrolling through it

 

I’ve got another similar take: I think Benson Boone being the new lightning rod is silly too. That Mystical Magical song sucks shit, but I don’t think the Beautiful Things song is bad, or at least not bad enough to make him the guy. To be fair, I have not heard anything else from him.
