Nah, the lyrics on that song really are absolutely garbage. It's basically Kroeger just being really repulsive and misogynistic.

There is a tendency in some rock genres for a band to write at least one song about a supposed "crazy girl who is the bad guy because she's a crazy girl who won't listen to me because she's a crazy girl but I'll still sleep with her because she's a crazy girl, hey, did I mention she's a crazy girl?"

I mean, at least Buckcherry meant it as a compliment.

that's the one Jack's Mannequin song I like.

 

The album that song comes from received the single most scathing review I ever wrote about anything, but all the rest of the songs have filtered out of my brain and I don't remember what they sound like. Not so with "Sugar." That fucking thing lives in my head like a virus.

I remember the music video for that one depicting Maroon 5 crashing people's weddings and proceeding to play that song for the happy couple. I texted my brother when that came out and told him if that had happened at my wedding, Adam Levine would have left in an ambulance.

Maroon 5 has worse songs than Sugar. I have to hear “Animals” every day

 

But anyway whenever there's a list of word songs it's lowest hanging fruit like with The Razzies, oh you don't like We Built This City On Rock and Roll so brave grow up

That one fortunately has been deleted from my memory, but I remember it being gross.

 

We build this city is great as we wouldn't have gotten the ladbaby version without it.

I think I remember that review and how brutal it was. Good lord what a colossal fall-off from that band.

And yeah I think it's pretty much in the job description of a best man to punch Adam Levine if he appears.

 

Re: Nickelback, I've softened on them slightly over the years, but the song Chris is mentioning is absolutely a piece of shit. Also, "Photograph" is one of the most shoddily written songs I have ever heard. I'm generally a sucker for nostalgia songs, but that one just has no depth, feeling, or point of view at all.

 

I didn’t know what sugar was off the top of my head and just listened to it. I do not like maroon’s 5 but that song is whatever. They have worse songs.

 

Animals is much worse

 

I still love those first two Maroon 5 albums. Third is ok. Even the fourth one had a track or two I liked. But yeah, it's just such a bummer the degree to which Adam Levine lost his way when the combined forces of "Moves Like Jagger" and The Voice jacked his fame up by a factor of 10.

It always amused me that, in the same year he made V, Adam Levine played the de facto villain of the film Begin Again, a creatively bankrupt sellout who gave up everything he valued for a little bit of fame. I wonder if he got that he was playing himself.

 

Yeah just listened to both and while I like neither, gotta agree that Animals is so, so much worse

 

"Something In Your Mouth" is the epitome of bad Nickelback songs.
