Crazy day to pick on the site’s taste over Title Fight when the music forum front page includes Sudan Archives, Tame Impala, Carly Rae Jepsen, Caracara, They Are Gutting A Body Of Water, Ruston Kelly, Militarie Gun, Moving Mountains, Circa Survive, AFI, Courtney Barnett, and *literally* a Title Fight side project lol
I have never heard a Title Fight song and have no idea what they even are. Maybe a punk band, I’d wager?
I just looked up Title Fight and it sounds *exactly* like a lot of bands I know only because of this site, this is a narcissism of small differences discussion
Once in a while a song will be a radio hit that I just can't stand for no reason I can really articulate well aside from that it just hits a nerve. And rn it's that "run from the sunlight dracula" tame impala song. No disrespect to tame impala. I don't even know his stuff that well. But I have to drive work cars so I listen to the radio a lot and when that songs comes on, which is a LOT, it just destroys my soul. It played this morning at like 9:45am and it's still in my head. But not in an enjoyable earworm way. Die dracula diiiiiiie
I know a LOT of people are into The Maine so I won't tread into that thread, but I have been listening through their discography to give them another chance, I've only made it as far as Lonely Little World (EDIT: apparently I never listened to this album before, and that's not even the name of it) before and don't quite "get" the love for them.. ANYWAY the point of this post is that I often see people say they remind them of Third Eye Blind which I find truly insane and not even close. Was listening to Pioneer yesterday and decided that what they really sound like, especially in the back half of that album, is the scene version of Hanson. Thank you, that is all
Don’t care enough about either of those bands to listen to five seconds to find out if Steve is right or wrong
I haven’t heard their whole discography but there’s absolutely no way The Maine has a banger like Semi-Charmed Life
I dunno man, I think the Third Eye Blind influence is extremely apparent. And I say that as a huge fan of both bands.
just truly wild to me. Where do you hear it? Vocally? Absolutely not. Musically? Granted I haven't heard the last few albums, but nothing I have heard even comes close to what 3eb does musically. Melodically? Not hearing it either. Maybe I am just listening to the wrong era of the band I guess
I actually do hear some vocal similarities between Stephan and John. But it's a vibe thing for me more than a direct "This sounds exactly like this" thing. "English Girls" is I think the one that got the most "This is a Third Eye Blind song" callouts back in the day, and I definitely hear the influence all over that album, but Lovely Little Lonely is the big one for me. That album has always reminded me very, very much of the last few tracks from both self-titled and Blue. If it makes you feel any better, I think your Hanson comparison is just as insane as you think the Third Eye Blind comparison is, lol. I do not hear that it any way.
it does make me feel better! Honestly though, the back half of Pioneer it's almost eerie how much he sounds like Taylor Hanson and musically the songs absolutely feel like mid career Hanson, with a slight pop punk edge. American Candy is next on my re-listen plate, so I suppose I'll listen out for English Girls and see if my mind changes at all. I also barely remember LLL, I gave up on new music from them after that album though so I don't think I really liked it.... we'll see. comparing the last few tracks of self-titled and Blue is jaw dropping to me though, those songs are insanely good
I hear it all over the guitars on LLL specifically. Don’t Come Down, Taxi, Lost In Nostalgia. A lot of those crybaby guitar tones and harmonic stuff going on
i read in a different thread someone comparing the last the starting line record to drive like jehu and i'd say that's a more confusing comparison than this lol
I do hear very small doses of one of Ken’s other bands, Person L, sneaking their way into the latest TSL album. That band was… I guess closer to something could be described as having a Drive Like Jehu sound (Born In The Rainy Days of May, Holy Hell, We’re Gonna Run Out Of Road)? So maybe I see the line of thinking? But that still feels wild lol. As a fan of both bands, I would never listen to TSL and think “this sounds like Drive Like Jehu”
i could maybe hear it instrumentally if i make my ears squint really hard but that dude's voice is about as far from rick's as you can get
my bad opinion of the day is i just got really into yo la tengo but think i can hear the heart beating is one of their worst albums. give me every other album they released from 1993-2013 + this stupid world over it any day
