underoath just needs their drummer to get behind the drums and let him sing more while keeping time, like all good bands in history let the drummer sing

This is going to shock you, but 90-year-olds living in retirement homes in Germany are not the benchmark for pop music success.

  3. i wouldn't say it was the coolest in order to say something else was less cool. but definitely some of the coolest

well no, because I listen to that band and have heard Lauren say their name many times, my point was that I don't listen to or like Alvvays so I didn't know

  13. That reminds me of how I always pronounced the clothing brand RVCA like each letter phonetically when I was younger. Mind was blown when I learned it was pronounced “roo-cuh”. Feel like that primed me for all of the V variant bands lol

hit me w a few recs if you’re open. 80s has plenty of stuff I love, but admittedly is lighter on it in my experience than other decades. I’m willing to be swayed

The ledge and I know I’m not wrong are absurdly cool sounding and as much as I like Fleetwood Mac there aren’t others coming to mind that have that exact cool sound

Yeah, I don’t think that’s true at all. Most people check out of the cultural conversation at like 40, so of course old people are going to be more familiar with a superstar that had his prime 40+ years ago than with a superstar currently in their prime.

Having not been alive during the Thriller era, I don’t feel qualified to assess whether Taylor is as big or bigger than MJ was back then. My feeling is: probably not! But Taylor in 2023 is absolutely the most dominant a pop star has been since I’ve been alive, and I can’t think of a close second place.

That whole suite of Buck songs rocks. Idk if you can have IKINW without “What Makes You Think You’re the One” and “Not That Funny”

I think you misunderstand me. This was also the case with 90 year olds back when Michael was in his prime. Worldwide superstars in the pre-fragmentation era were simply more “famous”. This might be less the case in the US, but it is definitely the case in a lot of other places around the world.

Ah, gotcha. Yeah, there's definitely no doubt that the situation has changed dramatically since then. I think that arguably makes the Eras Tour dominance more impressive, because it achieved a more old-fashioned level of cultural saturation and dominance in a time with way more competition. But Taylor's peak and Michael's peak are also just not really comparable for that same reason.

In hindsight the current transatlantic breakup was already inevitable once the US rejected Robbie Williams while he was still peaking

I very much enjoyed the collective confusion from most of America when Robbie's recent film came out. I always assumed that Take That had a bit of recognition over there, but apparently not.
