Re: charts, Zach Bryan does have something Nirvana never did, which is a Hot 100 number 1 hit in the U.S.

I do think Grady (the YouTuber) was framing this more as a Nirvana moment for American country music specifically, and not so much for the industry broadly. In which case, I buy the argument a bit more. Time will tell if he really changes the landscape for what mainstream country radio sounds like, though.

are we still lucky to be here? Prestigious

Country music was pretty solid back in the early 90s with dudes like Garth, Alan, and George (Strait).

That “who is the greatest American rock band” tweet is going around again and my friend is insisting the answer is Linkin Park

I think I landed on Nirvana being my confident answer. I could see the Dead but I don’t listen to them

    Trusted

I take it we’re counting Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers as a solo artist?

I guess Nirvana would probably be my answer, but I think REM and Creedence are probably good answers too

Pre-Punk? Either Beach Boys or CCR. Post-Punk? Talking Heads, Pearl Jam, or Nirvana

Beach Boys completely revolutionized how pop music is recorded and changed the perception of popular music to be seen as a serious artform forever, preceding The Beatles making the similar leap

I don't agree with this, but I'm fascinated to hear their reasoning.

Give a K-Pop group a bunch of Acid, and put them into a recording studio with a bunch of obscure instruments, and a producer with classical orchestral experience, and let them run wild. We could get another Beatles or Beach Boys out of it.

He claims they’re more influential for everything that came after them than Nirvana. And something about more people liking Linkin Park but being afraid to admit it. Idk he didn’t have good reasoning I think he was pretty high but he did not back down today

I take that question more of "what American band has had the biggest influence?" and in that it's almost undoubtedly Beach Boys, CCR, and Nirvana

Are the Beach Boys a “rock” band? If so, it’s them very easily

  25. It's hard to argue against the Dead if you think longevity should be part of the judgement but you can search my posts on here for more info
