I have a co-worker who plays bass and he tells me he listens to RHCP a lot but almost exclusively while he actually has his bass in hand jamming along....that to me is the only RHCP listening scenario I've heard of that has ever made sense. I have always hated them

I just saw them live and they kicked ass and they're still going despite a member literally dying

    Their music rocks

is it safe yet to talk about how the new TBS album isn't the second coming of Christ?

Really just distilled their sound down to the lowest common denominator and is dangerously close to straightforward alt radio rock

This is exactly what gets you on AOTY lists around here usually though haha

That and country singers that start making lame pop

I'll definitely agree on your first point, this site's lists for the last few years have championed some boring-ass albums.

Not gonna touch on country pop because that's often my jam

Release My Mind, My Garden Grows

152 really bums me out as a big tbs fan. Easily the most boring thing they've ever put out. Happy for you if you enjoy it, but I cant understand thinking its even in the same league as their best stuff. Tidal Wave at least had some rock songs on it. New one doesnt even really feel like the same band and the long wait for a new record makes it even worse for me.

Since we're in the bad opinions thread - my musical taste to this day still is "everything but country"

Sorry country is the one area that does nothing for me. Too much of a city boy

I was listening today and couldn't shake that I Am The Only One That Knows You is completely a OneRepublic song.

152 is fine but New Again is 100x better and people hate that album!

I think my honest top 5 TBS albums (which is likely skewed by recency bias, but whatever, who cares, it’s how I feel right now) is:

    1.) 152
    2.) WYWTB
    3.) New Again
    4.) Live from Orensanz
5.) …idk, maybe TAYF I guess, or maybe an honorable mention for the lukewarm af Louder Now because it has “MakeDamnSure”???

152 is very good. I heard tidal wave after 152 was done cuz Spotify put it on and it was really bad sorry

Juice 2 Me, The One, Quit Trying and The Stranger might be some of their best work

152 is a great example of how to do a more mainstream, pop-leaning album with electronic touches without sacrificing your core sound, a la ZZ Top.

Tidal Wave, however, was better and is probably their best record in terms of consistent song quality, though I probably wouldn't rank it #1

    Not newbie, I think

It's such a relief to see the TBS album shit talked a little. People all calling it AOTY was stunning to me. It's cool we all love TBS and I'm genuinely happy people can dig whatever they're putting out. It's listenable but far from good for a TBS album. Just smart enough to not have Adam try to really sing so it sounds passable. I have no idea why John doesn't sing more.
