I used to be a huge wonder years fan but I cannot stand Dan's singing on any record past TGG outside of a few tracks. He just sounds like hes constantly on the verge of crying.

 

I feel like this histrionic vocal style is prevalent in a handful of bands like this, and I just cannot jive with it. Not for me.

 

The Wonder Years tend to be an "in small doses" band for me, largely because of Dan's voice. They've got 6-8 songs I absolutely love, though.

 

Definitely a few bands I've noticed following this trend. I get the same feeling any time I hear Spanish Love Songs.

 

His voice bugs me but not any more than most pop-punk vocalists.

 

The Wonder Years are one of the better bands that are part of their generation of pop punk. Like, better than (off the top of my head) bands like Story So Far, State Champs, other bands that are generic as hell.... but TWY never got anywhere near the bands that they were influenced by... the obvious heavy hitters like The Startling Line, Yellowcard, Movielife, etc...

 

I’m not sure if TWY have become slightly underrated on this site or just among the people I tend to interact with regularly

 

I will say, I'm more excited about the upcoming Wonder Years album than I have been for a TWY album in quite some time.

 

that vocal style is consistent with soooo much of the music this site foams at the mouth about. i don't like that band that much either, just seems weird to single them out for that

i tend to think of powerpop as stuff more like young guv, with obvious 60's influence, than the stuff like fountains of wayne or whatever

Only good pop punk artist these days is Willow Smith
