there's a difference between "singing melodically" and "pop sensibility"

 

DTGL holds up better than almost any comparable album from the crop of bands they were associated with at the time

 

very obvious to me that voyeurist is leagues ahead of erase me and also closer to disambiguation than most of their records but i have to remember which thread this is

 

every underoath album from they're only chasing safety to present is good (like i don't even think my enjoyment of they're only chasing safety is nostalgia, those are well-written and -performed songs) except for erase me which has some very bad choruses

define the great line was such a leveling up and such a distinct record for the time and i still hear it as that. i prefer lost in the sound of separation slightly bc the songs feel tighter and lighter even though they're still head-turning

still completely blown away that they released my favorite album of theirs a few days ago

 

who are the bands in this crop? there are definitely albums by more than a handful of bands that hold up similarly

 

DTGL has always been the one for me although Fault Line is my favourite song of theirs.

definitive underoath song for me is "coming down is calming down" but also it is increasingly "thorn" off the new one

In Regards To Myself riff is imo a masterclass in post-hardcore/metalcore/whatever riffage

Bring back black metal vocals in Underoath

 

I always had "Reinventing Your Exit" pegged as their staple song. It was the single. And it rules.

 

Apropos of nothing, I always wished that Love Is Worth It by Silent Drive enjoyed the esteem of Underoath's best stuff. For screaming stuff of that era, it's easily one of my favorites.

 

I’m going to listen to these (and also the ones the others mentioned), but - if you can explain - what specifically about me (or rather my posting history) makes you think I would like those especially? I’m asking because you’re the only one that tailored their recommendations to me and that’s interesting
